About
The Barcelona L'Aquàrium is located in the old harbour, Port Vell, and is the world's most important marine leisure and education centre dedicated to Mediterranean undersea life. It is the perfect place to find out about the seabed and all its different species. You'll learn about them through the 66 Mediterranean and tropical tanks which are home to 11,000 animals from some 450 different species. The most spectacular of all is the immense Oceanarium, the only one in Europe. A transparent 80-metre-long tunnel runs through the Oceanarium where you can walk among sharks, giltheads, morays, ocean sunfish and many more species. Planeta Aqua and Explora! show the importance of water in the development of our planet, and kids can discover the underwater world by using their five senses.

- m250795Warsaw, Poland1 contributionPositive opinionIt's a great place to visit. There are lots of different species of fish and other sea creatures. The tunnel with sharks was my favourite place (I went through it twice). I also enjoyed a special relaxation zone where you sit and enjoy the view in a big aquarium.Thank you very much m250795 for taking the time to review your visit with us. We’re so glad to hear that you enjoyed seeing our marine life.Written 20 November 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2023Written 10 October 2023
- axeladrielgermain28Cour-Cheverny, France1 contributionWonderful but expensive experienceThe visit to the aquarium was really lovely. The exposition in general is amazing, showing an enormous diversity of marine fauna. However, we found it a little expensive to pay 25 euros for the entry ticket and 12 euros for a souvenir photo.Visited October 2023Written 16 October 2023
- SpudwynkNorth Shields, United Kingdom56 contributionsNice shark tank. Not very bigDidn't take us long to get round. Glad we went on gocity pass and hadn't paid the full fee to get in Shark tank was the best but. Penguin area felt small and cramped - too cramped for those beautiful birdsThank you Spudwynk for your reviewThe Penguin’s area complies with the standards and requirements of the WAZA (World Association of Zoos and Aquariums), it has a roof with tubes that allow natural light from the outside and also a filter to prevent from entering a different kind of species that could transmit diseases (pigeons, mosquitoes) that transmit malaria or aspergillosis which is common in the wild populations of this species. The penguins undergo health checks and we monitor their diet. They swim, interact with each other and breed in captivity. We already have the third generation of penguins born in our facilities. Also we are part of the "European E.E.P program for the conservation of Humboldt penguins". We participate in campaigns for the conservation of the Humboldt penguin because wild populations are endangered by several dangers such us climate change or the destruction of their habitat to obtain the "Guano" produced by their droppings.Written 27 October 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2023Travelled with familyWritten 26 October 2023
- Joshua R8 contributionsNot what I expectedThe marketing for the aquarium is very well done as it presents the aquarium as much nicer than it is. The estimated time that one spends in the aquarium is around 2 hours (according to Google and some other websites) but my partner and I completed the entire aquarium in 45 mins. The aquarium itself is fine but just not what I was expecting as I had high hopes for it, especially for an entrance fee of €25. Although I would not go back I’m still happy I went to see what it had to offer. The penguins were my favourite part. Would probably recommend to visit on a rainy day but would not put it on my to do list.Thank you Joshua for sharing your opinion with us. We regret not having met your expectations. We are always working to improve the experience. At L'Aquarium de Barcelona there are more than 10,000 specimens of more than 450 different species, and it is the most important aquarium with Mediterranean themes. Your comments will help us to achieve it.Written 10 November 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited October 2023Written 3 November 2023
- Stephen BHeywood, United Kingdom516 contributionsMore than first meets the eyeThere is more to this aquarium than first meets the eye. Hadn't realised there were 2 more levels and at a reasonable pace we completed the tour in 90 minutes. Initially it's a little crowded as we all first go in. This thins out and I felt we had plenty of room after a few minutes. There were some really fascinating fish species as you would expect. Some of the tanks looked a little tired but most of them were really thoughtfully designed. Arrived with a bit of a queue for the tickets. Booked online outside and beat most of them in. Usually it is pretty quiet but it is better to book online, especially in peak season times. They have lockers but they are not mandatory and they cost €1. Useful dumping our stuff. Nothing much else to add. Usual aquarium but nice large exhibit with plenty to see.Thank you very much Stephen for your review. We are proud to show visitors the wide variety of fish and sharks that can be found in the Mediterranean and other seas around the world.Written 20 November 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited November 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 18 November 2023
- Devyn CChicago, Illinois404 contributionsSmall but nice aquarium with moving walkway through the oceanariumWe visited with 5 adults and 2 children, and overall it was very good. At first, we didn't realize there was an underground level with a moving walkway through the oceanarium. But once we found it, that made it worth the price. The kids had a great time. Although I have been to bigger aquariums, this one was very nice, and I think the price is fair as long as the moving walkway is working.Thank you very much Devyn for taking the time to share your experience with us at L’Aquàrium de Barcelona. - FisaBarcelona, Spain64 contributionsBarcelona Aquarium VisitThe aquarium visit today was fun, however it felt far too short. There is a walk through area to see a range of fish which then leads to the main section of the underwater tunnel feature. This is a nice experience as it feels more interactive and a close up however if it is busy (like it was today) you are a little too close for comfort with other individuals. Unfortunately for us, there was a group of boisterous guys who didn’t abide by rules and used flash photography which meant someone of our photos were getting ruined thanks to the flashes. It would be helpful to have staff members present to supervise especially since young children and babies can be around. Overall, it was a pleasant visit however definitely not worth the price. The gift shop was very good and an interactive “feed the fish” activity was good for children.Thank you Fisa for your comment, We apologize for the inconvenience caused by finding some areas too crowded. It is difficult for us to fully satisfy all our visitors when there is a large influx of public on specific days and at certain times of the day. We regret the behavior of some people who annoy not only the rest of the visitors but all the animals on display. We apologize with the commitment that we will continue working to avoid these situations.Written 8 December 2023This response is the subjective opinion of the management representative and not of Tripadvisor LLC.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 1 December 2023
- Suzanne WestTorquay, United Kingdom16 contributionsLovely place to visit.we loved our visit when we came. Spent about four hours looking around at the different fish. We stopped for coffee and cake which was nice. We looked in the souvenir shop which was nice but found it expensive. We will be back. We found it better to book on line before leaving home. You can then just walk in.Thank you very much Suzanne for taking the time to review your visit with us. We are so glad to hear that you had a great experience. - Janni G49 contributionsLa AquariumFirst of all 25 Euro for this? Just the first Flor is for adults. The test is for children or families. And after that you can buy a photo in Front of a shark for 12 Euro. Best scam ever for one picture? Sure you dont have to buy this especially for families when you wana ne a good parent. That practice is really quenstionable in my opinion. First Floor is great for kids. Aß a family a good place but be aware that this will be really expensive. And after that you got the souvenire Shop. For german prices ok for spanish i dont now but i think overcost.Visited December 2023Travelled soloWritten 29 December 2023
- OlgaRB_worldtravelerChicago, Illinois3 contributionsGreat place to spend half a day with kidsWe loved Barcelona aquarium - we walked through all the tanks with amazing variety of fish and other sea creatures. We got to see penguin and shark feeding, which was worth the wait. They have a cafeteria on site with good selection of kid friendly foods and fun activities for kids to do (making a pin from scratch, for example.) there are lots of good souvenirs at the shop as well.Thank you very much Olga for your review! We are so glad to hear that you enjoyed your visit. Visited today. Queued about 20 mins to buy tickets and should have realised how it was going to be inside given there were plenty of entries with online tickets too.
It was absolutely packed full, difficult to see the tanks as all 3-4 people deep. Very little management of the glass tunnel part meant everyone bunched at the start making it impossible to keep walking through even though there was plenty of space along it (had it been managed properly - just needed an extra body or two.)
At over €20 euros per person over 10 years old one would assume this place must be making a huge profit - shame they don't ensure the experience is worth it.

Very sad to see the animals confined in so small spaces.. sharks should have more room.. the saddest was to see the pingouins packed in a very little space with no daylight or outdoor space. Same for the rays that are swimming in a box in 10cm of water... children and parents are most likely not respecting the animals by taping the windows and taking photos with flash ! The auditorium smells like mold and is very dusty.

Thank you for sharing your opinion with us. We are always working in the wellbeing of all the animals in our center, including our penguins and rays, and we also work in giving you the best experience. We are part of the European program E.E.P for the conservation of the Humboldt penguins (Spheniscus humboldtii), and all the penguins that we exhibit are born in captivity. Our installation is not large, but all the air that enters is filtered through a 3 micron filter to prevent malaria and aspergillosis, which is common in wild populations of this species.
Your comments will be redirected to the proper department, it will help us to improve.

We visited on 25th June as a couple. We had pre-ordered tickets which resulted in very speedy and easy entry. As we entered we had a photo taken together with a shark model - this is taken for everyone, but there is no commitment to purchase the photo later. We chose to purchase it, and we were very pleased with the quality and reasonable pricing. The displays were interesting and had enough information, which had been translated into multiple languages. It was easy to manoeuvre around, with moving escalator floors around the shark areas. We also throughly enjoyed the penguin feeding, although it was quite busy and became difficult to see with no policing from staff. The highlight of my visit was the optional bottle feeding of the koi fish, it was very sweet activity for a very small price. We would 100% visit again.

As a huge fan of thematic experiences and aquariums I was extremely disappointed with my visit.
The attraction is in desperate need of a refurbishment. Everything comes across as being very old, out-dated, tired and basic. Much of the attraction had a lingering smell of damp. The visitor numbers were way too high for this rather small attraction, meaning you could barely get to the glass to see anything and moving around was difficult. Not to mention the fact that it is very small, making it a lot of money for something that barely fills an hour or two.
The variety of fish was small and the tanks also seemed far too small for the size of fish that were kept. Overall I would not recommend.

The aquarium is old and needs refurbishing - looks like it's stuck in the year 2000.
It's very expensive and you can get the same experience at any local zoo.
You have to pay extra for everything: having your photos taken or feeding the Koi fish.
I would not recommend.

We went here with our 4 children seeking somewhere to keep them occupied with air conditioning! It was expensive and overcrowded. As it's dark in places, being able to keep an eye on the kids was very hard. You couldn't even get to some of the tanks.
Some tanks were of a good size, but some like for the penguins and rays were tiny :(
the cafe was incredibly expensive. 8 euros for a coke and sprite is crazy!

We last visited the aquarium 15 years ago and it hasn't changed one bit and it looks really outdated and sad. It needs a huge overhaul and if you've been to the aquarium in Valencia then it looks even sadder. Some of the tanks even had plastic plants which looked awful. A huge city like Barcelona deserve more and for 25 euros per adult it's a ripoff.

This was a very cool place that we saw. I recommend going there as early as possible especially in weekend because later in the day it gets crowded. It's interesting to see so many species of fish, jellyfish, corals and many other things.
Don't take the picture at the end of the tour. It's crazy expensive (12€).

We went twice in August (because my son liked it so much and he wanted to go a second time). It was very nice. Because of Covid, only 1 person can book (instead of 4) - so by paying the same you are basically alone. If there members of the same family, then they can go together. Everything was perfect, the instructors were very kind and helpful. Overall, an unforgetable experience.
