Visited in 2009: Unimaginative layout in cellar, but some good artifacts on display nonetheless. Sadly there was water dripping directly onto at least one exhibit, a bronze 16th century decorative helmet, and I spoke to a curator and a more senior curator about this. They were angry and dismissive about a serious, and very evident situation. Thus total thumbs down... More

When we visited Montjuic Castle, the weapons were in several different locations along with artifacts from the long history of defense this structure has seen. I highly recommend visiting the castle as it was my favorite site in Barcelona. You will find many old cannon and shore batteries from WW1 & 2 era still in their original locations.

Instead some (free) interesting photo exhibitions on display in several chambers of the castle. Old weapons and army stuff all around the place.

Staying in Montjuic

Neighbourhood Profile
Montjuic
Beyond the four columns standing guard at the Plaça Espanya, beyond even the extravagant and colourful fountains guiding your way up the boulevard, stands the impressive and towering structure of the Palau Nacional, the national museum. At this very spot in front of the cascades of the central fountain, Freddie Mercury and Montserrat Caballe gave the performance of their lifetimes to welcome the 1992 Olympic Games to this magnificent city. And true to its anticipation, the games transformed the city, reimagining the mountain of Montjuic with the development of an arena, stadium, and many other sporting facilities that are open to visitors year-round. Surrounding the adjacent side of the plaza are well-established hotels catering to business guests and a shopping mall transformed out of a historic bullfighting arena.
