Neighbourhood: Barrio Gòtico (Barri Gòtic)
With its iconic, old-Europe streets and alleys, this picturesque neighbourhood is the very heart of Barcelona. It blends historic artifacts from its days under Roman dominion up through the Spanish Civil War with a vibrant modern-day culture of artisan shops and authentic culinary experiences. Avid explorers will be thrilled to discover quaint terraces and plazas brought to life by the many small bars and local musicians lasting late into the night. Fashionistas will be drawn to Portal de L’Angel, which is lined with well-known brand names and smaller boutique stands.

We began our trip in Barcelona by touring this beautiful cathedral. We especially loved the outdoor garden.

From the moment you enter this Cathedral you are taken aback by the stone vaulted roofs. We didn't have to queue- arrived around 12.30. 9 euro seemed so reasonable. Even offers a trip in an elevator to the roof!!! Never done this before in a Cathedral and visited many. This wonder just kept giving. Cloisters with white geese of 13 - no more and never less. A museum of wonderful ancient religious artifacts and paintings. You could roam at will with limited restrictions in place. I sat for an hour just 'drinking' in the shear history, architectural achievements and the silence of its majesty. Wow what a place!

Very somber atmosphere in this large but unimpressive cathedral. The only highlight to look forward to if you visit is taking a small elevator to the roof top scaffolding which gives you stunning views of Barcelona and a closer look at the architecture.

Highly recommended. It is a stunning building which is well worth a visit and should be part of your tour around the Gothic District. This city never fails to deliver!

Highly recommend coming to see here, it is quite a stunning building inside and the views from the rooftop are good too over the city and in distance can see Sagrada Familia too (which we also did go into on a tour and also recommend this too). It is a lovely Cathedral to go and see.

Another majestic piece of architecture ans well worth the price. Book tickets in advance. The rooftop was closed due to rain but the lighting inside was memorable.

This ancient church had iconic pieced of Art in this church but she shows her age. The gold leaf is everywhere. The choir area was spectacular and the organist was practicing so this was a treat. This old church while very n I certainly in many ways was shoeing its age, especially on the ceiling. We went to the top for a overall view of the city which was nice.

Lovely and unique gothic church that starts your journey into the Gothic quarter which is honestly the best part of the city. In front, watch Barcelona come to life with performances and people-watchers and all sorts of people passing by its square. Once inside (book online, you'll skip queues and know availability and price which was 9 euros for an adult), you can admire the bare stone contrasted by the heavy and ornate decor. There is a feeling of peace, mysticism and history.
There is an audioguide you need to download an app to access, or a small booklet, as well as small signs to indicate what it is you're looking at. The end of the cathedral is really wonderful with this cage of stone and the crypt which creates levels you don't usually see in English cathedrals.
The highlight however, is really the elevator to the roof. It's the perfect place to contemplate the city's unique skyline, and you can even spy La Sagrada Familia from there! Just as you sit and ponder below, as you do above with the benches they provide. That was my favourite part. There is a last operation time for the elevator however (I think it's 5.30pm on the Monday I went), so be careful of that. All in all, definitely a good stop over for the price.
Finally, the cloisters are free to visit and also worth it. I've never seen a cloister with palm trees as tall as the columns, that was really something, as well as the famous geese!

Noi Siamo andati di mattina e l'ingresso era libero (no guida). Abbiamo pagato 3 euro a persona (bambini gratis) solo per salire sul tetto con l'ascensore...ne vale decisamente la pena. Per la Messa non saprei

Is the walk up the stairs to the cathedral very difficult for an elderly person? Are there any alternative ways up to the cathedral other than the stairs? Do the stairs have hand-railings?

The stairs are about a floor and a half high. There are railings and elevators and ramps for physically challenged persons. The sight will lift your heart.

Hello.
Is the rooftop access available any day of the week? We were planning on visiting on a Sunday afternoon but the website is unclear on whether or not you can get the lift up at any time.
Many thanks.

Sunday the Cathedral is open 8-2 and then 4-7 if not booked for a wedding or private event. I would suggest seeing it in a weekday if possible. In either case make sure you book your tickets online in advance for both the Cathedral and Giralda Tower. In a crunch if you are unable to go up Giralda there are many Hotels that have roof top cafes that you can access and enjoy a cup of coffee or a drink and see the view from. There are choices but do see the city from atop... worth it!
