About
The Museu Picasso in Barcelona is a key reference for understanding the formative years of Pablo Picasso. The genius of the young artist is revealed through the 4,251 works that make up the permanent collection. Furthermore, the Museu Picasso, opened in 1963, also reveals his deep relationship with Barcelona: an intimate, solid relationship that was shaped in his adolescence and youth, and continued until his death. The Museum is very rich in regard to work from the formative years in the life of the artist; it is practically exhaustive up to the Blue Period. The Museum also houses an important representation of works from 1917, and the series Las Meninas (1957) as well as a comprehensive print collection.

Top ways to experience Museu Picasso
The area
Address
Neighbourhood: El Born / La Ribera
The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually enjoy losing your way in. After all, there are few places that live and breathe such exciting energy regardless of the time of day. This neighbourhood seamlessly transcends the old and new parts of the city, reflected in its vast array of restaurants ranging from fancy Michelin-star establishments to trendy fusion restaurants. Here you'll find historical and cultural attractions such as the popular Picasso Museum and the Gothic cathedral La Santa Maria del Mar, where you just might be able to catch a traditional Catalan wedding.

    Beautiful Stroll Into Past Art
I visited the museum after one of my excursions fell through and I was thoroughly impressed. I learned a lot about Picasso and his life in Barcelona and the entirety of Spain. I had no idea Picasso was Spanish, so imagine the depth of knowledge I learnt and art I consumed. Visitors all over the world will be pleased.

    A must see in Barcelona
This museum was amazing! Really changed my opinion on cubism. Very well laid out and a good 2 hours needed. Many early works of Picasso. The building itself is also lovely. Exhibits are written in several languages, one been English but it still worth it to get the 5 euro audioguide.

A Surprising Find in the Barri Gotic
Though not originally on our planned itinerary, we opted to visit here and was not disappointed. The vast array of items available to see was impressive. The evolution of Picasso’s art from when he started to later in life was quite interesting. Well worth a visit and not far from the Barri Gòtic.

    Picasso museum, a must see
Fantastic experience and well worth the visit. The audio experience was well worth the small extra charge as it explained the exhibits very well. The museum showed some excellent examples of just how talented Picasso was from such an early age, a must see if visiting Barcelona.

    Barcelona and Picasso
We found the museum in the Gothic quarter of Barcelona in a lovely picturesque street.Entry was only €7_50 for us as seniors. The building is well organised and you are ushered from area to area with politeness. The early works are explained and there are written information as you wander through the rooms, Unfortunately for us the lack of the more famous later abstract paintings did disappoint. We expect they are too precious and possibly in private hands so not on show here in any number. Still we think it is good value and we did experience some of Picasso and his work.

    Special exhibit even better!
Definitively worth a 2 hour visit. To bring the museum to life, I HIGHLY recommend getting the audio because the people that work there…prefer for you not to ask them questions. I rather enjoyed the special exhibit better than the main exhibit because it was Picasso’s art dealer, a behind the scenes look…very interesting.

    Prodigious
Science and the Charity painted by Picasso in 1897 when he was just in his mid-teens was one of the standout works we saw. Its beauty and accomplishment perfectly illustrate what a prodigious child artist he was, and a powerful harbinger of what was to come. During a couple of hours in the matchless museum it was fabulous strolling around admiring myriads from his oeuvre. First Communion, created when he was about 15 is another superb piece from his youthful days. At one stage Picasso was reputed to have said, a tad disparagingly, that all El Greco ever painted were men with pointy heads with pointy beards. But he often paid homage to the great Master and Man, after El Greco from 1899 is fine evidence of Picasso’s esteem for his predecessor. A portrait of his later wife Jacqueline, from the 1950s is one of multitudes he produced of his final model, that he finally married in 1961. Despite the great age gap of 45 years, the relationship lasted until the artist’s death in 1973 at the grand old age of 91. A further fabulous theme is from 1957 when Picasso commenced a series inspired by Velazquez’s masterpiece Las Meninas from 1656. From his exile in France the works continued his opposition to events occurring in particular during the brutal Civil War. A great art dealer Daniel-Henry Kahnweiler is given a major exhibition. One of the greatest supporters and promoters of particularly Cubism, many of the works he collected are displayed. All the greats are here – Klee, Derain, Braque, Leger and Elie Lascaux. House of the Feather-Man by the latter is superb.

Excellently Curated Museum is Barcelona’s Best
Beautiful collection, temporary exhibits, and building. The best art museum in Barcelona and the one you must see if only visiting one. Even non art enthusiasts should come here if just to see the important Picasso pieces for the historical and local significance. Not too large either - 1.5 hours if you go quickly or closer to 2.5/3 hours and you’ve seen everything with time to linger on your favourite pieces.

Visit Museo Picasso to see some of the most iconic pieces of work within the last century
It was very average. It’s beautiful seeing such an iconic artist’s work. Recognising the famous works and learning about new ones was interesting. However, it wasn’t completely to my taste and that is just down to personal preference. However, I would definitely advise giving it a visit if you can.

    Great Picasso museum
We visited the Picasso Museum in Barcelona on our recent trip to Spain. This was one of the highlights of our stay in Barcelona. We saw several of his very early works and his series of paintings that Picasso painted in 1957 by performing a comprehensive analysis of Velazquez Las Meninas. Very interesting. Thoroughly enjoyed the visit. The museum is just the right size too - not too much to handle in a few hours.

Very interesting to see the progression of Picasso's style from youth to maturity. The audio tour is worth buying. Also good to know that Tuesdays are free.

We enjoyed our visit to the Picasso Museum and our expectations were definitely met. We did buy our tickets ahead of time though not sure that was necessary especially during the month of November. It was not particularly crowded. We did have to get the audio guide at a different location than the entrance and you do have a couple of options. They can provide you a guide or you can download it on your phone which is what we did, and they give you a password. There is a small gift shop at the end of the museum as well. Would definitely return the next time we are in Barcelona. Enjoy.

You can visit MOMA or LACMA in the US with large Picasso collections, or the Orsay, but this museum in Barcelona fills in the gaps in Picasso's artistic development. It is truly comprehensive, in a pleasant setting.

This is a nice museum that is easy to experience. We bought our tickets for a later time of the day and it wasn't over crowded. They control admission to allow everyone a chance to actually spend time looking at the art and reading the descriptions and captions. Plan on an hour and a half or two hours.

The regular ticket price seems to be €14, but I went on a free Wednesday so I didn't have to pay anything to visit the museum. With that said it was definitely worth spending an hour there.

To get a free ticket you need to to book in advance, but that is really easily done on the web page. On the web page it says that free times are Thursdays from 1700 to 1900 HRS, but when I booked all of Wednesday was free...

You also get to se some Moró originals as well as Picasso.

The Picasso Museum was not at all what I expected, in a good way! I get to see a lot of Picasso's work living in Philadelphia as quite a few of his pieces are on display at the Barnes and the Philadelphia museum of art. However, honestly those collections are quite focused and do not tell me much about the man himself.

I loved how the Picasso Museum walked you through his life and influences. You'll see more than just his most googled works. You'll see how things started, sketches from art school, and even his pottery!

While I cannot remember the exact amount, admission was fairly priced. I'd plan to spend at least a hour, maybe an hour and a half, in the museum. They have a few videos around the museum mixed in with all the art to provide context and background. Enjoy!

This was the greatest disappointment of our trip. I had read that there were more than 4,000 permanent exhibits in 5 separate palaces, but I would guess that there were no more than 300 full-sized paintings in one building. Don't pass by the first room that is wallpapered with hundreds of thumbnail sketches or you will have missed half the tour. Most of the works were from his early years and were donated by Picasso himself so I would imagine that these were the ones that didn't sell. There were signs describing his most productive years then the next room jumped 3 decades of his career. We were going at a decent pace because we were expecting to see far more works of art, but we were finished in a little more than 1/2 an hour. When we asked if there was more to be seen, no one spoke much English and we were directed to the exit.

I made a reservation to come at a time when the museum wasńt supposed to be busy, I am not sure what busy means. In an old absolutely stunning building there were crowds everywhere. The show in itself was nice enough but unfortunately not my favorite. I would still recommend going but to expect crowds.

Go if you rate Picasso. It will not give you an overview of his life and work as it largely consists of some interesting early work and some from the 1950's and later so is curiously disjointed. There is a very interesting section of his obsession with Velazquez's La Meninas which would have been much enhanced if there had been a large photo of the original.
The building is worth a visit and the area around the museum is well worth exploring with lots of interesting artisanal shops
I would suggest going along and seeing when the timed tickets are available (usually a few hours later) which gives you time to visit other local sights or wander around the local narrow streets

Don't miss this. It is an interesting building architecturally and the collection is amazing. Also, a great spot for photos--wandering in and out of the balconies and staircases.
