The Museu Picasso in Barcelona is a key reference for understanding the formative years of Pablo Picasso. The genius of the young artist is revealed through the 4,251 works that make up the permanent collection. Furthermore, the Museu Picasso, opened in 1963, also reveals his deep relationship with Barcelona: an intimate, solid relationship that was shaped in his adolescence and youth, and continued until his death.

The Museum is very rich in regard to work from the formative years in the life of the artist; it is practically exhaustive up to the Blue Period. The Museum also houses an important representation of works from 1917, and the series Las Meninas (1957) as well as a comprehensive print collection.

Start with the museum website to get advance tickets. And then it's a breeze in, Maybe it doesn't matter in the off season but it was still nice to just walk up and flash a pdf of a ticket. Very smooth. To the art and display. Excellent. You will walk away with a great appreciation of Picasso as an artist.... More

A fascinating gallery where we learnt a lot of new things about the artist and his works. We were even more impressed by Picasso once we had visited here. What an awesome collection.

I have visited Picasso museums in many places but this one is very special. It is based close to the Santa Maria del Mar church, a wonderful severe gothic building with a fascinating story and inside several palaces that have been put together throughout the years. It hosts one of the best collection of paintings and designs of the artist... More

It was interesting to learn more about Picasso's life and progression of art. There are a lot of works here I never knew about...not that I knew a ton about the artist. We purchased the headsets for the tour which was helpful. Spent about 2 hours here. In a great location to have tapas afterward or roam around and get... More

I am not a Picasso lover but enjoyed seeing his early works and learning a little more of his history/background. The museum itself is beautiful architecturally from the outside but very cold on the inside. All marble. Not what I expected. Very few places to sit if you have any type of mobility issue. The layout was a bit confusing... More

If you are interested in art, this museum is a must! Great located in the centre of Barcelona! So drinks or lunch or dinner afterwards is easy! Beautiful building, and spectacular work! We were there on a Friday afternoon, not very busy! The queue we saw on Saturday and was impressive and we were glad we were not in it!... More

You have to be a lover of Picasso's art to truly appreciate it. I am not, so although the display of art is impressive I was anxious to leave.

Great Museum, a little bit confusing, we bought our tickets online and no one gave us a map. So we weren't sure where to go next, but I think we managed to see the all exhibition.

On my first trip to Barcelona, I had to see the Picasso Museum. I was surprised that there were ceramics there and many sketches. It seemed like the museum featured Picasso's early work.

Staying in El Born / La Ribera

Neighbourhood Profile
El Born / La Ribera
The labyrinth that is El Born becomes most apparent the moment you turn down one of its side streets. But this is one of the few labyrinths you might actually enjoy losing your way in. After all, there are few places that live and breathe such exciting energy regardless of the time of day. This neighbourhood seamlessly transcends the old and new parts of the city, reflected in its vast array of restaurants ranging from fancy Michelin-star establishments to trendy fusion restaurants. Here you'll find historical and cultural attractions such as the popular Picasso Museum and the Gothic cathedral La Santa Maria del Mar, where you just might be able to catch a traditional Catalan wedding.
