About
The National Museum of Sculpture is one of the most important European museums on this discipline because of the quality of its collection, ranging from the Middle Ages to the Baroque, with a predominance of polychrome wood works: Alonso Berruguete, Juan de Juni, Gregorio Fernández, Mena, Martínez Montañés, Alonso Cano, etc. The 19th century, is represented by the plaster cast collection coming from the old National Museum of Artistic Reproductions. The historic value of the four buildings which make up the museum along the street reinforces the worthy character of the visit. The main building, Saint Gregory´s College, is one of the most singular examples of the architecture in the 15th century, next to the Palace of the Marquis de Villena, the House of the Sun and the church of St. Benedict the Elder.

The staff were officious, overbearing and rude. Every time we walked into a gallery the member of staff would get up and follow us around. We are senior citizens and had no intention of touching the exhibits! My husband leaned against a wall, the exhibit was 2 metres away and he was told to move. I walked up to an 18th century plaster copy and the attendant came rushing over, assuming I would touch something. I got told that I must carry my handbag. We felt like 5 year olds. The staff to public ratio was 4:1 and it felt oppressive.

The exhibits were interesting but the experience was ruined by the staff. Not recommended

The museum consists of three sites.
For a 3 Euro bill you can visit exceptional places (palace, chapel, church...).
Discover in the palace an extraordinary Neapolitan manger.
The collegiate church teems with religious works but not just the buildings alone Worth the trip to admire "old stones" and ceilings all different in each room.

The exhibition features great works, many from the great period of Catholic imagery. Interpretation through posters makes the visit very enriching. Admission is very affordable, so it makes it a must for Fine Arts and History lovers

My partner and I are not much into museums but we decided to go since the free tour guide had recommended it to us and we wanted to make time to see the processions, and the truth is that we were pleasantly surprised.
It is interesting to see up close all those sculptures made, mostly, of wood. They are really beautiful works.
The building itself is also a spectacle! It is very easy to focus only on the sculptures but don't forget to look up in each room, because there are beautiful ceilings! Some works of art in themselves!
In addition, it is a perfect activity to do on rainy days and the entrance is very cheap, plus there are hours and days when it is free!

Is awesome. Whenever I pass through Valladolid, I go and if they explain it to you, it's great as it is to us Agueda 661739398. Authorized guide from Castilla y León and one of the participants of the Musicalized itinerary in San Miguel del Pino, 20 minutes from Valladolid. You can do both, you won't regret it.

This museum is a true gem that no one should miss.
It's impressive to see what's inside. It has a garden that is beautiful.
There are actually three buildings very close to each other.
The main one has a façade that is a marvel of the time and is the one that houses the sculptures.
The rest houses painting collections and even a huge Neapolitan nativity scene that is worth seeing.
Very affordable prices.

It is a must if you visit Valladolid and have a minimum of artistic sensitivity, you also do not need to be an understanding. The works on display are magnificent, many truly impressive. For me this museum is in sculpture what can be a great painting gallery: an exceptional collection and, in addition, in a space that itself is a work of art: in addition to the works, you have to look at the ceiling of each room. I count no more, be surprised.

I thought it was a fantastic museum. The sculptural works that are exhibited there are wonderful. The building is beautiful, especially the patio and several wooden coffered ceilings in the different rooms and stairs. I recommend it one hundred percent.

Valladolid was the shining star of Spain 500 years ago, but since Madrid took over it´s enthusiastically torn down its architectural heritage and raised up some real monstrosities. Still, there are a few jewels left in the old crown... and the sculpture museum is the big diamond!

This is not a collection of lumpy steel things, or welded-together beams, or bronze mermaids. This is mostly Spanish religious sculpture, the sweet-faced stiff virgins, the twisted Mannerist grotesques, the bleeding hearts and crucified Lords that live at the heart of the Spanish character. There are tons of religious statues in churches all over Spain, sure, but these are the best of the best, displayed in well-lighted settings that let you get up close and see the amazing craftsmanship and artistry that are hidden in the shadows of dark, dusty altarpieces. If you see only one thing in Valladolid, see this. I go back, over and over, and always discover something new and wonderful and sometimes weird!

An exceptional collection of Medieval art in the heart of a beautiful city. Get away from over crowded touristy places and discover the real heart of Spain! Some of the statues and artworks are so incredibly beautiful you can image how they would prompt an emotional and religious reaction in the audience. A great place to visit in Valladolid.
