The new cathedral is only a little newer than the 'old' cathedral and is much less ornate but it mad for an interesting juxtaposition and was worth taking a look at. Actually, you are more or less forced to visit both as the visitors' route...More

The New Cathedral in Salamanca is certainly worth seeing. As you would imagine, it is the prominent structure in the city and the best photo is from across the river with the Roman Bridge in the foreground. In a curious fashion, the new church is...More

We were amazed by the size of this cathedral. We actually thought that we were in the old cathedral until we went through the door to the old one. This is still old and very well maintained. A must see.

The cathedral itself is not as great as other gothic cathedrals in Spain but the complete set of an "old" and "new" cathedral as well as the Hyeronimus exhibition is awesome and you won't find anything similar in the world (as far as I know)....More

A beautiful, large and decorative building with gothic and baroque elements. It has the scale and soaring height of the type of cathedral one might associate with northern Europe. To non-catholics, the seemingly endless rows of side chapels, saints, religious paintings and the repeated symbolism...More

Worth the visit....climb the tower to see the views of the city but of the roofs of both old and new cathedrals. Audio guides are provided...lots of information given. Old cathedral is simple yet has so much history...paintings and sculptures are breathtaking!

Unfortunately, it was impossible to see the cathedral from a distance in the dense fog. During the restoration in 1992, an astronaut was added to the facade as a signature of the modern sculptors. Inside not as impressive as I expected, till I walked through...More
