Nice Statue
Dec. 2019 • Solo
Lots of statues like this in Madrid. But, for Burgos, this is a large, impressive statue. The square is nice also, as is the surrounding area.

He deserves a larger square

the Cid is a medieval hero, from this town, and the square is at the entrance to the Old part of town, worth reaching it by foot as parking is impossible here. Nice Statue

Just the statue
Oct. 2019 • Couples
Not really a square for sitting out in - more a traffic hub, and entry to the old city. The statue of El Cid is there and worth seeing only because you’re in Burgos.

Nice enough

This is a very nice area but, because Burgos has so many beautiful places, isn’t one of the best. It is very busy with traffic but still has great appeal.

It centrepiece is a magnificent bronze sculpture and things revolve around this. There are the usual amount of cafés, restaurants and bars to take in the sights here as well.

Not the largest or most impressive of Spanish squares, but never-the-less, a really lovely place, definitetly worth popping to.

Galloping on the main square

The statue is located in the middle of a very busy square. While the traffic rushes by, you can admire this wonderful statue which has been created with motion - the horse's feet in the air and the billowing cape of El Cid in his riding posture, arm raised. A masterpiece.

Magnificent Statue
May 2018 • Couples
A busy square with a magnificent statue of El Cid.

It’s a pity it could not have been put in a less busy place where you could study the statue and take photos safely.

Visit of the historic enter of Burgos.
Apr. 2018 • Solo
You have to imagine it like this, “El Cid” is known as the spirit of Spain. His real name “Rodrigo Diaz de Vivar” who lived from 1043 until 1099), under the name the “Cid Campeador”, he has been the husband of Dona Jimena, and has contributed to the unification of the kingdom of León and Castile, which had been fragmented after the death of Fernando I. The in strange circumstances assassinated Sancho, was succeeded by his brother Alfonso VI, who the El Cid, figure of Castile and friend of the late King Sancho, made swear in Santa Gadea that had nothing to do with the death of his brother, which earned him the resentment of the King and banishment. This you should visit after your walk into the historical centre, and from there you are on the “Paseo del Espolon” who brings you back to the bridge over the river and from there it is only a few steps to the car park “Vega”.
