Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A mixture of a pleasant walk, street artists, the envitable tourist shops & cafes but somehow a bit more than that!

Compared to the resorts in the southern part of Tenerife, Puerto de la Cruz is only the antechamber of package travel hell. Yet, these old parts don't have anything typical or spectacular. If you are keen on getting the tourist treatment you will get at any other tourist hotspot around the world (gamblers, "art" vendors, caricature painters): go. If not: avoid by all means.

Very popular part of town, great on a sunny day, not so when its raining. Very relaxing listening to the crash of the waves on the rocks behind you. Very close to the shops and restaurants its a good day out.

The views are absolutely stunning, the blue of the sky with the black of the rocks and white foam from the sea are a picture in motion. Sitting in the sunshine, watching the sea and listening to the crashing of the waves, well it doesn't get much better.
Find a bench and relax.

The best area of Puerto De la Cruz, take in the atmosphere watch the fisherman with their catch of the day. Lots of old buildings in the middle of the shops, bars and restaurants can kill 1-2 hours walking round the little streets. Little fishing museum free to visit, icons they take out to sea in the harbour, both next to the tourist information.

This is part of the historic waterfront in the town. It’s a delight to wander around, see the boats, look at the views and enjoy a relaxing walk in this interesting port. It’s full of charm and only a few minutes from all the shops.

This small bustling fishing harbour and beach, right in the centre of town is packed with local families and teenagers, swimming between the fishing boat, dive bombing off of the substantial harbour wall and sunning themselves on the crammed beach. The atmosphere is vibrant and it's nice to sit at one of the quayside bars and to take it all in, or to watch the sunset!

It was Tuesday, 16 July when we came in Puerto de la Cruz late afternoon after a great day in Loro park. I realized that something's going on when I saw huge crowds and looked for parking for almost an hour. Finally we found it and walked to the city center.
It was a huge fiesta - the biggest annual event in Puerto Cruz: the city patron saint Virgin Carmen festival.
The city looked like a big rave party, with loud music, thousands of people out - on the streets, on the beach, in the sea,...everywhere. Many food and drink stalls, rivers of alcohol,....it was mad.
As the locals told me, the fiesta lasts for a whole day with its peak late afternoon when we arrived and later before dark when the Virgin is escorted from the Cathedral down to one of the boats on the beach to set sail into the ocean.
Apart from this, this old small port is cute, it's in the historic center with a fortress above.

We stayed in the area near the Lido but after discovering this older part of Puerto we spent a lot of time in the old town. There is so much to see and it is so vibrant with good little restaurants everywhere and lovely old Tenerifian buildings down sweet side streets.

A pictoresque point in town of Puerto de la Cruz. An old fishing harbor with things needed for boats as well as a statue of fish carrying woman.
