- dreamonWexford, Ireland7 contributionsWonderful venueBuilt on the seafront similar to Sydney Opera House. It is a dramatic building on the outside, quite interesting architecture. Inside it is a large venue (1650 seats) with great acoustics and its outstanding design is the glass wall behind the stage where you look through to the ocean.Visited January 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 January 2024

The acoustics of the main hall is lovely especially when music is being played live. Also like this another hall which is adjacent to the main building.Visited February 2024Travelled on businessWritten 26 February 2024
- MikeLondonSE13London, United Kingdom10,885 contributionsGreat quirky architecture. Excellent acoustics in small auditorium for chamber music. Clean toilets. Friendly staff.25/3/24 Monday Evening Bach Concert We three middle aged guys from London were in GC for a week and were a bit starved of culture. Nothing was happening in GC culture wise in general so when this popped up my friend grabbed the opportunity. He has already been to this venue, I had not. Approaching it from the public bus (from the centre) it was certainly impressive. It is designed almost as a squat lighthouse and finished in 1996 after three years building. Up close it is amazing and inside is lots of wood with walls and corners adorned with animals scurrying around; quite Gaudiesque! The Bach International Festival event actually had no Bach in it at all but a series of similar era pieces with instrumental soloists and a sopranist (male countertenor but higher!) accompanied by a string and harpsichord sextet. In the bar area drinks were available, we did not partake. The audience was surprisingly mixed ages (ten year olds up) and casual. The concert itself was amazing and the acoustics were splendid, nice and crisp with no distracting echoing. Bass came across well too. The interval of twenty minutes was within the 1hr 50min program, drinks available obviously. The toilets were clean and modern too, although only one set on the ground floor. I do not know how long the ladies' queue was at the interval! The building was designed by a man so probably they were long.Visited March 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 28 March 2024

It was shut! Google gave opening hours from 8am, but clearly the venue was solely for evening entertainment .
A cafe would have been appreciated after the long walk along the Esplanade to refresh us and share the view.
Had to go to the Mall instead.

The star celebrity of the British show of talents Christina Ramos gave her debut for Xmas in this auditorium.
She absolutely gorgeous and brilliant singer and entertainer! The orchestra played brillant with a very warm atmosphere and all the other singers tributed their professionality .
It was an evening with 2.30 hours without any pause one of the best nights ever this year 2019 on Gran Canaria. The Auditorium Kraus is architectural and music professional an outstanding building . Strongly recommend also for tourists to change some hours from beach to the capital Las Palmas.

We went on a tour around the auditoriums. The guide was enormously enthusiastic and clearly very proud of the Audirotio and Las Palmas.
Rooms were interesting and the main hall has an excellent surprise feature.

Incredible building, from a distance it looks like a castle or a big cathedral with a light house on the middle.
Inside has several rooms, either for music or for conferences.
A worthwhile visit in Las Palmas.

The Alfredo Kraus Auditorium is a great building in a great location. We've enjoyed classical concerts which are part of an ongoing programme by the Philarmonic Orchestra of Gran Canaria and it's a real delight to sit in the auditorium looking down on the orchestra with a dramatic view of the waves visible through the huge window behind them.

From September to June, most Fridays the Auditorio offers concerts of the local Philarmonic Orchestra. And in January-February the Canary Islands Music Festival brings to the Auditorio some world class interpreters.
Definitely, Gran Canaria can offer much more than only sun.

The Auditorio Alfredo Kraus is named after the late tenor Alfredo Kraus, who was born in Las Palmas and reaceh worldwide fame. Beside the auditorium is a monument to him. The auditorium is used for many cultural affairs.

The building is really nice from the outside, but the guided tour is uninteresting and a waste of time.

I was able to book a short tour (30 minutes) at short notice inside the auditorium and the guide was most accommodating. I just turned up ( it was a Sunday so the box office was not open) and she was helpful .
She explained the ethos behind the architecture and all the work that had gone into the building. Very knowledgable. I had seen the outside of the auditorium many times - it is most impressive, particularly at night as a 'sentry' for Las Palmas . The inside does not disappoint.
I was only sorry that it was my last day in Las Palmas as I would really have loved to have the experience of going there for a concert. Make it a priority !!!
