It is famous for its beautiful La Concha beach, considered one of the best urban beaches in Europe. The city is full of historical charm with elegant Belle Époque buildings, as well as delicious gastronomy, and, of course, events such as the San Sebastian International Film Festival attract visitors from all over the world.Visited October 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 4 December 2023

Now it contains numerous bars to meet up and have a drink and enjoy the sun. I was really excited about my trip to San Sebastián.
The food and sights were amazing, but the trip was entirely spoilt. I was absolutely APALLED by the unfriendly, utterly rude, unwilling & impatient people of this basque region. We had multiple experiences within the first couple of days of our weekend (as respectable and polite tourists) we were met by poor service, waiters who were put out / annoyed by merely asking for another drink & simply uninterested & perturbed by our presence, even though we just sat there quietly enjoying the scenery. Receptionists who were unhelpful & dismissed any questions we had by responding with “I don’t know, look it up on the internet”. We had arrived late & asked after water/any snacks that may have been available & met with a snort & a “no, nowhere is open”. A group of women of 50 years old who barged in front of us in the Old Town taxi rank telling us to “move out the way” calling us “extranjeras” and “we were waiting first you b*tch

The Parte Vieja is the heart of old San Sebastián with its narrow streets, ancient churches that survived the British burning the town down during the 1815 war when the French occupied the city. The area is a maze of great resturants and bars with servings of pintox and tapas. Worth a visit a and walking tour during the day and eating in the evening.
Unfortunately at night the British Invasion, rape and pillage continues with extremely noisy and aggressive drinkers until 3am. No wonder there is graffiti by the locals saying "tourist go home".
So certainly visit the area but if you are more than 25 year old stay elsewhere in this beautiful city.

Undeniably delicious food and drinks. The problem is the locals, waiters and restaurant owners are so outwardly hostile towards tourists that it makes you not want to go anywhere. We spoke with a few Saint Sebastian inhabitants who said the city folk are “over tourists”, which is evident in the dismissive and rude way you get treated, despite our best efforts to be courteous and respectful. It put me off for life.

We parked in an underground parking lot and then we walked along the river to get to the ocean to the beach of la grande conche. Really easy after we walked in the old neighborhoods the atmosphere is top .we could not swim because too windy and very covered got damaged because it makes you want to make a splash. On the other hand big flat we were fooled by beautiful pictures of dishes on the front of a restaurant it was infamous and nothing resembling with the photo. Watch out for tourist catches

The old town of San Sebastián is enclosed in a series of small streets and alleys, where there are mostly nightclubs. During the day, therefore, the streets are mostly bare and are characterized by closed rooms. Surely in the evening it will be a completely different nightlife but during the day nothing special honestly.

19 October wonderful day spent discovering Donostia. Starting from the panoramic view of Mount Igueldo and then descend to learn about beaches, squares, bridges, cathedral, churches, harbor and enjoy the real city life by frequenting places where you can taste pinchos and txakolí.
The Euskadi territories for me were a cultural and life discovery that greatly involved my sensitivity to the respect they managed to obtain with their character strength.

Arguably, the old town of San Sebastián with its profusion of pintxos bars and restaurants is the main draw for many tourists. There is no doubt that a wander through the maze of narrow streets is one of life’s pleasures and if you enjoy tasty snacks, then the pintxos here are as good as it gets.
It’s important to note however that the style of bars ranges considerably from the large ones with food covering every inch of bar space, to small local-style bars. As the main bars can get very busy with tourists we much prefer the smaller, quieter bars.

It is truly a pleasure to walk through these streets where charm is on every corner. It's like that. We have also walked along its old promenade and in addition to it being raining, the waves hit with impressive force entering the surrounding streets. Great show if you are careful to keep your distance and not get wet, even so the water got to me.
About bars... There are all the ones in the world... With glass windows where you can see the pinchos, the great quantity and variety is surprising, you can't try them all but you can see them. I find it a fascinating place 👍

The Old Town of San Sebastian is very beautiful, buildings are well maintained and it is very clean. I saw how they clean the streets with machines in the morning. On a Saturday night very full and alive. On a Sunday morning, very calm. This city is great and worth visiting.

Pension Del Mar
Reviewed April 24, 2019
Do not look at the entrance much, because it does not look very fancy. The street is small and ends in that block. When we got there, there were working men working in the front of the building so we could not find the entrance easily.
When you walk in and go up, you kind of breath with easiness to see the place is nice.
A great room fin a hostal that looks like a tiny hotel, so close to everything and in the middle of important areas to visit in San Sebastian. Staff was so very friendly, the room big for the three of us, a lot of light inside the room, mattresses perfect, the room very clean and impeccable, very clean decor and the bathroom great.
All we needed for a comfortable stay. Price was so great. Coffee and snacks at the entrance, We left our car in a close public parking but with a special price from Pension del Mar. You can sometimes find parking space in the street, but it's not easy.
A lot of nice little cafes and restaurants around a few blocks away.

Hola, cuántos días para conocer ésta ciudad a ritmo tranquilo. Qué recomiendan visitar? Dónde comer?
Written 22 June 2019

Where do you park if staying in old town..? Pension Amaiur to be exact
Written 12 July 2018
The simple and straight answer to parking in San Sebastian is PAYING. Cars are not allowed in the Old Town if you are not a resident or have a special permit from the Town Hall just for drop offs. Parking in the city centre is metered and becomes very expensive. There are also many underground parkings all over, not very cheap either but more affordable than the meters. The maximum amount you would pay for keeping your car a full day is around 22€. An alternative to paying through the nose would be to park in the suburbs (Loyola,Aiete, University area at weekends...) and come back to the centre on the public bus.Hope this helps

There are a lot of very good cider houses just 10 to 15 minutes from the city centre: Petritegi, Garciategi,Alorrene,Irigoyen,Zapiain, Astarbe to mention just a few. All in the area of Astigarraga, at 5 kms from the centre and known for the number of cider houses.
The best time to visit them is between January and May when the cider is poured straight from the barrel into the glass before is bottled. Its so much fun! Although nowadays some are opened all year round with the cider in the barrels.
