We spent 2 1/2 hours. Really interesting. History of Basque peoples presented in various ways: example of clothing, pottery, short films, some interactive info. Naval and political history especially of twentieth century. Eyewitness accounts of life for poor Basques in first half of 20th century. Small exhibition of Sert paintings. Exhibition of Basque industries eg skateboard, Fagor etc. Free for... More

I was almost going to rate this experience "average" but on re-reading my journals (we visited in Oct '16) I remembered that there were many highlights as well as frustrations (with poor organisation, layout, general flow of exhibits etc) but I did come away really pleased that I had spent a couple of hours there trying to learn more about... The museum's set out chronologically, and the displays are brilliant with lots of information. However, unless you're a Spanish or Basque speaker, you might miss out on some of the juicier information because the displays are only in Spanish and Basque. There are leaflets and handouts with some of the info in English and other languages, but it's a very... More

This is an excellent museum built around the well restored Dominican Priory. I was in and out in less than two hours and that was hardly sufficient time to do justice to what was an excellent collection ranging over a photographic collection from the 1920s and '30s through the development of art in the Basque region and the Basque traditions,... I was attracted by the new extension of the museum. And really surprising the old and new fits well together. The collection about Bask culture is an interesting overview and background for visitors.

This museum of Basque history and culture was a highlight of my short visit to San Sebastian-Donostia. From Paleolithic artifacts to the Sert canvases, the exhibit design and commentary really stand out. I ended up spending more time than I'd planned. Don't miss it!

We went here at the suggestion of the hotel since it was raining the day we arrived. It was a great idea, very interesting and informative. Lots of great exhibits and history of the Basque area. If you have a chance visit here!

Well laid out museum in a very nice building. Get the audio guide to walk around with as it explains a lot. And although there is a bit of signage in English, there isn't much. This is a good place to spend an hour or two.
