Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Absolutely beautiful! Needs some maintanance and resotoration though. I was informed that you could enter the castle in the past, but it looks like it is in direpair now. Who owns this place? and can they please try to improve the overall layout of this European masterpiece? The walls have shrubs growing out of it, there is paint markings on some parts of the wall. An option to enter would be incredible!

This place was great! Literally a deserted castle with no one around! we walked around it and stayed for maybe 30 min. Ive never seen anything like it...a big beautiful castle right in the middle of nowhere! Being from the states it was hard to believe there was no one else around! It was about 20-30 min outside of Bilbao

A gorgeous castle but it's obviously all closed up and noone can get in. There are no signs and it's very run down. Such a shame as it could be an amazing tourist attraction for the area.

Hard to find and gated off , don't waste your time going to look at this castle - the photo's on here show you all there is to see. Could be a great tourist attraction as beautiful old castle but has just been left.

Butron is is in the countryside near Bilbao. It was built during the Gothic revival fad of the 1800s and is definitely a fantasy castle. Unfortunately, you can't go inside, but it is great place to have your picture taken.

It is not hard to find at all as some said. Clearly sign posted and the Apple/Google map was accurate. Easy parking. We parked by the river/bridge just a little ahead of the playground and then it's just a short walk to the castle. Can't go it but can walk around it and take as many photos as you want. If you drive, then this is a worthy short visit. We came here after we'd done Gaztelugatxe, which is not far from it at all. It is a beautiful castle. But if we had limited time or had to get public transport to come, then no.

This castle makes you VERY curious around how it was in the medieval time when the centerpart wasnt built. Even through you cannot go inside it is a magnificent masterpiece well worth visiting. Go up to the wooden door and count how many holes for crossbows you can see.

Yes is only available from the outside...bit that is part of its charm! A tranquil place, no tourists, just feels like how a castle should feel like, cold, dark and beautiful. A definitely must stop over if in bilbao or san sebastian.

The castle is really nice.
It is a pity that cannot be visited. Apparently it is private but I think that once a year they organise something there.
There are some tables outside where you can sit and have a picnic. It seems that in high season there is also a small café next to the tables but it was also closed when we went.

The site is surrounded by corrugated aluminum and there is a construction crane at the site. not quite a medieval mystery spot right now.
