Torre Abdel Aziz is a hexagonal tower located right in the corner of a building. It has apparently been there since a very long time ago! It was built most probably by one of the Moor rulers of the city, possibly before the 10th century, but the evidence is very scant and no one can say for sure. It was part of the fortifications of the city, and was connected to the nearby Palace of Alcazar. It's now a great tourist attraction in a busy city area and you can't miss it if you are in the vicinity.

A common Arabic name, Abd el Aziz (طور عبد إل عزيز) is often written (in English/Spanish) as Abdul Aziz. The literal translation of Torre Abd el Aziz is Tower of Abd al-Aziz. “Al” is Arabic and spelled “el” in Spanish, thus the corruption of al Aziz. (Arabic words often start with al: alcazar, Alhambra, algebra, alcohol☺) It is named for Emir Abd Al-Aziz ibn Musa, who resided in modern-day Seville from 714–719AD. Call it Abdul Aziz Tower, Abd al Aziz Tower, or Torre Abd el Aziz, this hexagonal tower was one of the City Wall corners, which linked walls of the palaces, and nearby Royal Alcazar. It’s sometimes referred to as Torre del Homenaje, because it is the first place the Castilian banner waved after the Reconquista of 1248. Moors had conquered Spain in 711AD, and constructed this fortification tower. Recent excavations have revealed a trove of artifacts. That Seville chose to preserve this thousand-year-old stone structure is a testament to honoring the past. The same cannot be said of many modern governments that destroy the past to make way for structure that last less than 100 years.

Hidden in an unassuming corner of the Avenue de la Constitution, this is a remnant of a Moorish defensive tower that connected the city walls.

The tower of Abd-el-Aziz, that once was part of the Almohade city wall, is now the corner of a building in the Constitucion Avenue, close to the Archivo de Indias. The name celebrates an old emir of Seville, from the 8th. I doubt the tower comes from that time, since Seville was not even that important in the 8th century. In fact, the tower is less important than the passage by it - the postigo (or small door) of Abd-el-Aziz, from the 12th-13th century. Legend say that it is through where the Christian troops started to occupy the city in 1248 and where, for the first time, a flag of Castille hang. It is a must see passage. Use it to go from the Constitucion Avenue to the Alcazar.

A piece of history hidden in this corner.
It is a hexagonal-shaped pillow tower built in the s. XII.
It was one of the vertices of the wall, linking with the Real Alcázar.
