Nice centre square, but also crowded.
A nice square in centre of town, buzzing with life. The traditional turist traps but a very good starting point for exploring the city. Also because of the many bus lines running through. It also connects to the walk up along Rio Darro towards Paseo Los Tristes.

    A plaza full of energy
Typical busy plaza full of people and energy. Restaurants galore. Crossed through here as we descended the road/pathway from Alhambra. There were some street performers there including a group doing Flaminco dancing. We generally avoid places like this to eat since they are more expensive and the food generally not as good. Nice though if you just want a quick desert and coffee to people watch. Enjoy.

    Typical continental square
As per a lot of European cities, Granada boasts a grand square. It’s vibrant with plenty of restaurants and whilst a bit touristy, they’re not particularly expensive. Worth a visit and grab a meal/drink to watch the world go by

Cool plaza with lots of restaurants and bars, located at the near end of Carrera del Darro. Great place to catch a drink and do some people-watching!

A large open Plaza with fine restaurants each end. Plenty of seating and shade in the evening the street entertainment is very good from Flamenco to guitarists.

Nice square surrounded by tapas bars and restaurants lots of which have outdoor seating. Start of the street that runs alongside the River Darro and also the street up to the Alhambra. There is a large taxi rank where you can get a ride up to the Albaicin or Sacromonte areas and the Mirador San Nicolas. Take care though as the tiling on the square is very slippery in the sunshine.

We recently had a family trip to southern Spain to visit Granada and other cities. We stayed in accommodation in the city and we were impressed with Plaza Nueva, Granada's central plaza, lined with many shops, restaurants and cafes.

Despite its name Plaza Nueva (New Square), it is a very old square. It spreads over the Darro River. From the square starts the Carrera del Darro which is a narrow beautiful riverside street.

From Plaza Nueva, you can walk up to the Alhambra. From the square starts also the lively narrow street Calle Elvira.

Around the square are several important buildings such as the Royal Chancellery and the House of Pisa.

You can sit on one of the many terraces to eat or have drinks after sightseeing.

We took a trip to Granada from Malaga and after visiting the main sights we wandered in the centre. We found this nice square , where the building of the Royal Chancellery stands. Music was playing while a few couple were dancing tango, walcer or Flamenco. It was great!

You will almost definitely cross this plaza several times if you stay in the city and walk anywhere. Decent cafes, access to Alhambra, Albaicin. We saw some dancing on Saturday night and what appeared to be a never ending stream of glamorous wedding at the Church of Santa Ana.
