The Plaza de la Merced has an obelisk in its center to commemorate General Torrijos, who fought for liberty against the monarchy. At one corner one can find the Casa Natal de Picasso, where Picasso was born. In front of it is a statue of Picasso sitting on a bench, which is a favorite spot for tourists to take photos.

Nice square, very child friendly, lots of terraces and always one in the sun. Lots of urban alternative young people are using the square as a meeting point. Nice tapas bars with some outstanding tapas.

The plaza lies more or less on the border of the old town and the new town. It's restaurants are a bit touristic but it's one of the few places where you can sit and have a lunch in sunshine even in the middle of winter. When it comes to food there are even better places to have lunch in... More

... for local families on a winter morning stroll. Lots of cafes and bars around the square, this is a place to sit and talk to friends and family.

A lovely sunlit square to enjoy a tapas and a drink, or simply sit and watch the world go by! Plenty of choice of small bars and restaurants to suit every taste around the edge of the square.

There are many nice places to sit and drink. It's beautiful and fun. During Christmas there is a stage where there are concerts. Beautiful fountain in the middle.

This square is perfect for hanging out: restaurants and tapas bars. The Picasso foundation is also here and the museum is off the square. The bus stop is here too including the hop on hop off tour bus

Lots of places to eat, have coffee or a drink around the square. There is an open air Market in the centre of the square each Sunday. Quite a good market with different and interesting stalls. There are always lots of people about. All the Spaniards seem to have dogs and take them into the square for their walk; lovely... More
