Statue of Averroes
Not something that needs to be particularly reached
But you've finished the Jewish quarter and you're on your way back to the center, so a tour of Cairuan Street will bring you here.

This statue of Averroes (Ibn Rushd) is one of three statues of great philosophers all within a short 5 minute walk of each other. All three were born in Cordoba. Maybe it was something in the water, but Cordoba has produced an impressive number of the the world’s great thinkers.
Starting on Calle Judios, you’ll find Maimonides, the Jewish philosopher, near the synagogue, in the heart of the Jewish Quarter. From there, we continued 100 metres up Calle Judios, to the ancient city gates, Puerta de Almodovar. Seneca, the Roman philosopher and senator stands right outside the city walls.
From the gates, we turned left and followed the water feature and the city wall until for about 3 minutes until we came to the white stone statue of Averroes, the 12th century Islamic scholar. He is recognised as the most influential philosopher of the Arab world.
He looks intense. It’s not surprising – he had a lot on his mind. He spent a lifetime studying the ancient Greeks like Aristotle, astronomy, medicine and mathematics. He was also a judge and appointed as the doctor to the royal court.

This is a statue of a medieval thinker by the name of Ibn Rushd, but known locally as Averroes. Averse had a great impact on logic, philosophy and his legacy remains in this subject as well as Islamic jurisprudence.

This statue and that of Seneca and Moses Maimomedes commemorate important thinkers from Córdoba. Averroes (Moslim) and Maimonides (Jewish) both spoke to how both religion and science can be reconciled.

Averroes was born in Cordoba.
Averroes was a commentator of Aristotle. Thanks to Averroes, Aristotle became available in Western Civilisation. I love this statue!

This is a statue of Ahmad Ibn Rushd who was an Andalucian Muslim and a philosopher, famous for his writings and worjk as a judge and other good things. He was born in 1126 and died in 1184. The latinised name for this fellow was Averroes and a nice looking guy he must have been to get a statue next to the old entrance to the old city.Do not miss him as you enter the old town

The sculpture is dedicated to the Andalusian doctor and philosopher known as Averroes. The monument is located in front of the wall, between the Puerta de Almodovar and the Puerta de la Luna, in a truly beautiful place, surrounded by flowers and pools.
The sculpture consists of a pedestal, on which Averroes appears holding a book on his knees.
