Went for a swim, but couldn't miss the naval memorial. Majestic in memory of. Actually it was more worth our visit than our aim to swim. Take the ferry from Kiel central station area and enjoy that ride also.

After visiting the memorial garden, and seeing the exebition for the many sailors that has lost their lives during wars, this memorial also offers a magnificent view over the area of Kiel.

Yes it is. The ferry is the best way and the most scenic way to get there. Check the ferry schedule to see about the stop after the Main Train Station. I walked there from our cruise ship and I could have gotten on right next to where we tied up. I did the walk from the ferry landing to the Ehrenmal in Laboe last summer and it was very easy for me, a sedentary senior. It's very flat and paved the whole way until you start to walk up to the monument itself. There are many places along the way to stop for a beer or soft drink and a sausage. The top of the monument is worth the climb from the level where the elevator stops.
