It's an interesting and nice building whose two square belfry towers are outstanding particularly owing to their aesthetic character. It is withheld that the name of that Church appears already in a document from 1187 though it seems that the oldest parts of the Church...More

The perimeter of the inside of the church walls are host to several huge paintings by Cranach and other reformation painters. There are labels nearby so you can learn about visual clues in the paintings to better understand the story being told. We spent some...More

Really interesting painting in the front of the church. Wish there would have been more information in English. Still, worth a visit.

An impressive interior displays the power of art as a medium of propaganda (or expounding the truth, if Lutheran). Side displays explain what is meant by all the panels and, being 2017 and the "big 500", there is an especial effort this year to explain...More

The church is not as attractive as the Castle Church, but it has an interesting interior, and it is important in the context of the Reformation, since Martin Luther and, one imagines, his supporter Philip Melanchthon, were in the pulpit a good many times. The...More

The architecture alone is well worth seeing this church. Make sure to spend time inside and enjoy learning the history.

Not only did Luther preach from this pulpit, but the church is packed full of art and sculpture, and should definitely not be missed!

In this 500th anniversary year of the Reformation it was especially appropriate to visit the beautiful Stadkirche Sankt Marien. The altarpiece is lovely. Martin Luther is remembered.

Not to be missed if you care about Luther and the Reformation. Read all the displays, they taught me a lot. Don't miss the altar piece, a lot of history in it. There are some nice small gifts in the gift shop.

Be sure to study the altarpiece. It is quite detailed and lovely. The rest of the church is relatively stark, but the choir loft with the organ is beautiful. Everyone will go to the Castle Church, but make sure you visit here, too.
