Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Worth a visit. This is the former residence and workplace of Lucas Cranach, considered to be among the most prolific German painters and printmakers of the Reformation. There’s a permanent exhibit on the man, his life and his contemporaries.

The home of Lucas Cranach the Elder (1472-1553), fell into disrepair under the East German GDR Communist government but underwent extensive restoration from 2003-2007. Now a museum with permanent and rotating exhibitions, workrooms for artists and an academy for students, the home of the most famous German Renaissance painter is an excellent place to learn about this contemporary of Martin Luther and his influence in the Protestant Reformation through his paintings and printshop.
Cranach became the court painter to Frederick III of Saxony in 1505 and bought this house in 1512 and lived here for the next 45 years. He was a close friend of Martin Luther, he and his wife Barbara provided a home to Luther's future wife after she left being a nun, and were witnesses at the Luthers' wedding at St. Mary's Church in Wittenberg.
His painting are in a number of locations in Wittenberg and are in art museums around the world.

This is a great place to learn about Lucas Cranach lived in the 1500s and was an artist, painter and printer for many famous people including Luther and kings. The printing press helped him design many booklets and books for Luther and some of these are on display. There is also more recent art, Mosaik, a DDR comic that is still being published, and in the Hof there is an art school. We enjoyed this recently opened museum and courtyard.
