We took visitors from USA, we went in and almost out again in half an hour. as Dresdner we lived through the Hitler time, through the heartbreaking time when we Jewish people were "abtransportiert" and through the bombing of Dresden in 1945. we all had...More

This is a prison where people were sent if they disagreed with the Communist government. People didn't stay here - they were sent to other prisons after being questions and humiliated. The cells are preserved as they existed then and what has been added are...More

Interesting but you end up spending a lot of time down in dreary prison cells, when actually the most interesting bit is on the top floor which is where you end up last. Virtually all in German. I recommend starting upstairs first.

I am glad there are museums like this as it may help us prevent this type of government from taking power again. The exhibits were an eye opener and shows the violence used by the former KGB and Stasi security services. If you need an...More

An executive summary of what socialist state does to its citizens. An old Stasi headquarter in Dresden, coexisting with a prison. Add also former Soviet prison and you will start to understand what was happening in a German Democratic Republic. Worth spending few hours and...More

Having visited the Stasi Prison and Stasi museum in Berlin, both of which are very recommended, I had high hopes for this. It was a worthwhile visit but if you don't speak/read German, manage your expectations as very little is in English. Nevertheless, it is...More

I visited the prison on 24.7.17 on a day trip to Dresden to learn about the history of the GDR and the Stasi. I received an informative welcome at the entry desk and paid only 2€ for student entry fee. You are able to explore...More

Very easy to get to via tram from the Dresden train station, the prison seems to be perfectly preserved and gives you a disturbing insight into life during the DDR for those deemed to be politically dangerous. The eeriest part is the cellar used by...More

There are still too many states acting in a very undemocratic manner and oppressing its own citizens. We all have to keep up this shameful memory! It's all displayed as if it was closed only yesterday!
