Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

A beautiful old part of this city to be enjoyed strolling the shops or dining in one of the many restaurants or taking a horse and carriage ride. The Holy Cross Church dominates the square and is worth a visit. The Medieval market and Christmas Market gluhwein stalls were still active when we visited. A great way to enjoy a few hours exploring the area.

An archetypal town square. Full of life with some fine buildings including the Dom, cutesy stalls, sensible cafes. Good starting point for any wander around Dresden. If you're coming for a day trip there's an excellent carpark literally under the square.

The Old Market Square is one of the best squares in Dresden and seems to be have stalls perennially set up with stalls. At least, it was the whole time I was in Dresden. Fun place for festivities with lots and lots of food, drink and gift stalls, plus a few mini fairground type activities for the little ones.
There’s also lots of shops around the square, most hidden by the stalls in the square, but they are there. Also on the square is one of the best known buildings in Dresden, the Church of the Holy Cross.

Very busy square where the Christmas market was setup. We watched the tree lighting which was great. Lots of food options and very fun. Don’t miss while in Prague.

We admired the Square while having breakfast on a Sunday morning. A Flea Market filled the square with tables of interesting items and lots of people. Later, the Square was filled with political demonstrators.

I was in Dresden with a friend last week and the weather was wonderful. Dresden is a beautiful city which was mostly rebuilt after the second world war. There are some remains of prior to then and new buildings have been attached to them. There is a lot of building going on in Dresden just now and perhaps it is for 2025 when the city is due to be the European City of Culture. There are many beautiful buildings, museums, many good restaurants, opera house, and it is a very easy city to walk about. The city is divided in two by the River Elbe and it is easy to walk over the bridge to the other side although the majority of sightseeing buildings etc. are on the main part of the city. Leipzig is just and hour and a half away from Dresden by train and we went there for a full day. It is another lovely city and well worth a visit. All in all I would certainly recommend Dresden for a holiday.

The square is a great place for a variety of uses, including music fests and beer fests. It is surrounded by several good hotels, restaurants and shops and is only a short walk to the center of Old Town. While we stayed in the Star Inn Hotel on the square the Autumn Festival was hosted there and was filled with stalls vending food, beverage and assorted handicrafts and souvenirs. We had a wonderful lunch from one of the food stalls.

How far is this square from the train station? Any recommended hotels on/near Square?
Written 5 September 2017
It is about a 15 to 20 minute walk. It is flat but through the city much of it is a pedestrian area of stores including a Holiday Inn Express. An Ibis hotel is next to the Markt also.
