Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

If you don't know it is there you'll walk straight past it. Walking through the gate you'd never guessed you just walked into a long rectangular medieval jousting arena. The two lanes are clearly marked. Along the walls of the courtyard are the original stables. On the other side of the long wall, along the Augustusstrasse you'll find the "Procession of Princes". The Stallhof is also the location of the Medieval Christmas Market.

This lovely restored courtyard reminds you of the way life was all those many years ago. You can hear the horses and see the knights. To met this was more of an experience than something to see

A well restored place. Inner yard of the royal stables with a lot of royal coat of arms painted on the arcade walls. The former washing basin for the horses is still there. Once medieval games were held in this yard. This place was entirely demolished during WW2 because of air bombardments. Free entrance, near the Royal Palace and worth visiting

You can see this by doing a quick detour as you walk through the arch of the royal palace whilst enjoying the local construction sites. It's quite disappointing really.

Impressive.
I couldn't help myself but imagine what this place was like when this place was utilized by the royal family back before WW2. The re-construction has brought it back into pristine condition. The size of this huge stable obviously held many medieval events and I can see why the Christmas market extends into this stable.
Not much at fist but just keep walking through and one can see it is an impressive architectural piece for events and livestock management.

This was once a area where horses were stabled and used for jousting. There is still the tank or wading pool where they were cooled down and washed and a ramp that led into the pool and another that allowed them to be led them into the upper floor of the stable.

We were so lucky to stumble across this area which had been transformed into a medieval Christmas market. It comprised around 30 or so stalls, ranging from a blacksmith displaying his skills, fortune tellers, hot wine stalls, food stalls, someone selling wax seals, someone selling all things felted including luxurious looking slippers and also some wooden toys. Highlight for us was the guy running the archery activity - 2 euro for 5 shots and he tallied up your score at the end. A brass band was playing, the atmosphere was cheerful and the area decorated with typical medieval flags. Absolutely loved it and it's over two levels so lends itself to some interesting photographs. According to the brochure it finishes on 6 Jan.

I think that we had walked past this place on numerous occasions but only noticed it when on an evening walking tour lead by the city dungeon keeper. He brought us to the gates of the old horses yard and shared some entertaining stories of an "olde worlde" gone by - not all of them suitable for kiddies :-)
Armed with his stories and a great imagination you can really picture what it might all have been like in the long and illustrious past of this wonderful city.

Attractive location among the royal stables, some hilarious exhibits (4 guys in a hot tub sipping gluhweine), vendors in traditional garb and a 5 piece Russian brass band playing holiday music and "show tunes"!!! What more could you want this time of year.

We visited this horse, gaming, hunting arena as part of our walking tour. We walked through it the day before on our own and with the guide understood much better, how this space was used. Very cool to imagine the jousting tournaments that took place here.
