Tripadvisorās approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Palace of Culture itself - very beautiful. But the conditions are absolutely outdated. I was really freezing cold, I wanted to keep my jacket on - IMPOSSIBLE. I would have to dress accordingly. What a cheek - I was freezing the whole time. Of course, there is a ā¬2 cloakroom fee per item of clothing. Now the next big bar before each entry. Bought a drink and was happy that you can sit down comfortably and sip your wine during the performance. Wrong thought. We had to drink the glass within 5 minutes because you are not allowed to take it inside and the performance starts. If I had known that, I would not have got anything to drink.
A woman with a disabled person wanted to take her backpack in because she had something to drink in it for the disabled person in case they coughed and had something. They wanted her to hand over the backpack, then the disabled person begged that she needed it. Only begging helped, but with the note that she was not allowed to drink during the performance. Hehhhhh - honestly, it's the first time in a long time that I've been to the Kulturpalast, but it's definitely the last time for me. I'm going to avoid every performance that takes place in the Kulturpalast. I'd rather not go.

We are extremely disappointed with the last performance of the Nutcracker. 1/3 of the stage was not visible from our seats, tier H. We only saw a decorative curtain. Entrance fee: 51.95 euros per person. Furthermore, a 2 euro fee per item of clothing at the cloakroom is disproportionate and unnecessary, especially compared to other venues. We felt ripped off.

Confusing and the paths to the individual rooms/events are poorly signposted, e.g. Herculeskeule in the basement is difficult to find for first-time visitors. It is a tasteless concrete building with several event rooms under one roof.

I went to a performance of the complete cycle of Smetana's 'My vlast', on May 27. Performed by the Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Petr Altrichter. A passionate and vigorous execution. I was exhausted. Perhaps the musicians were too! Fortunately for them it was the only work programmed for them that evening. Great stuff!! The concert was part of the annual Dresden Music Festival.
I believe maybe renovation of the KulturPalast had been completed just this year. From the outside it looks as if the innards had been gutted and the roof raised above the original roofline. This allows for an impressive, soaring, concert hall inside, with great acoustics. The roof extension does not detract (at street level) from the look and feel of the original building. Which, despite its stalinist/modernist simplicity, complements and completes the handsome Altmarkt across the road.
When I came out of the building that night there was a sound stage in the Altmarkt, with performances to celebrate the GLBTIQ communities' Christopher Street Day. 2 guys were singing (live, not lip-synched) a technofied version of Queen's 'Radio gaga'. Bedrich Smetana and Freddie Mercury: what a magical contrast/combination.

By chance we were walking past the Kulturpalast and spotted the GDR era mural which said it was put there on 20th birthday of the DDR. Look out for Walter Ulbricht at the top right.

The "Kulturpalast" (Palace of Culture) is a modernist building dating from the era of the German Democratic Republic. It opened in 1969, and was used for concerts, dances, conferences and other events. From 2012 it underwent several years of reconstruction and opened with a new concert hall in April 2017.
It is a building designed in the unadorned International Style, that severely clashes with all the buildings in the same area.

The Kulturpalast in Dresden is a house made for music with scholars from all over the world and also a world famous orchestra that travels widely. Very interesting.
