Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The red sandstone exterior with all its turreted and decorated towers resembles Worms cathedral. The interior, however, is more sparse, with what seem to be 19th c. paintings above the nave and stone sculptural programs along the side aisles. There is also a pleasant and relaxing cloister lined with epitaphs.

I recently visited Mainz Cathedral, also known as St. Martin's Cathedral, and had a great time! The cathedral is located in the heart of the historic old town of Mainz and dominates the city skyline with its impressive towers and spires.
Upon entering the cathedral, I was immediately struck by the stunning stained glass windows that illuminated the nave with a rainbow of colors. The intricate stone carvings and sculptures that adorned the walls and columns were equally impressive, showcasing the incredible skill and craftsmanship of the medieval artisans who built the cathedral.

I walked to the cathedral from the train station. It’s such a big building that it’s easy to find as long as you head in the right direction.
I had to circle around a bit to find the opening; the doors to enter for sightseeing aren’t obvious. There was a small sign near the door. The entrance is underwhelming. But, once inside, it’s impressive.
There are many sculptures along the wall, some with a real gothic vibe (skeletons). The main part of the church is huge, and the ceiling very high.
I was there on a Saturday morning in October; it wasn’t busy at all except there were several tour groups.

The Mainz Cathedral is a very large imposing edifice. Not so easy to visit the interior as the hours for entry don't seem consistent with hours posted. I tried two days in a row to enter and failed both times.

My wife and I had to stop in the Mainz Cathedral, aka the DOM. The biggest cathedral of any city is called the DOM. It is also called the High Cathedral of St. Martin zu Mainz or Mainzer Dom for short. It is the cathedral (bishop's church) of the Roman Catholic Diocese of Mainz and is under the patronage of Saint Martin of Tours. It is located near the historical center and pedestrianized market square of the city of Mainz, Germany. This 1000-year-old Roman Catholic cathedral is the site of the episcopal see of the Bishop of Mainz.
This is a must see when visiting Mainz!

The Mainz cathedral is over 1,000 years old and dominates the heart of the Old Town in Mainz. It is constructed of sandstone so it is characterically red. This is a must see in Mainz, a very large complex inside and full of history.

Easy to find and free to enter. The organ was being played during our visit which enhanced the atmosphere.
The Cathedral has a 1000 year history which is best appreciated through a guide. The outside offers an imposing view, but the inside is impressive for the stonework and scale rather than it's beauty.
Well worth a visit.

The history in and around this church dates back over 1,000 years. This history can be seen in various parts of the church in hidden alcoves, basements, and in the garden area. I would not recommend this attraction if you don't want to spend some time and take in the history.

I visited Mainz as part of a Christmas Markets tour, so really just did a quick walk through. The nativity scene was very nice. The entire church is beautiful and is a must if you are in Mainz. Wish we had had more time to really "study" it.

Went with a friend who was walking me around the city. Lovely place to visit. Situated in the older part of the city and well worth visiting if local. I'm not religious but to see the architecture of the building and it's history was lovely

Hi Annabelle, have only ever visited as a tourist with my German partner who grew up close to Mainz. Will ask her if she knows of where possibly to look. Will be back in touch if I have any news. However, they do have a large administrative office at the Cathedral and there's always someone there who can speak English. Why not give them a call. Good luck. T
