I went to Mainz for the Christmas markets, but did visit the Cathedral. It was a Sunday, so I went in during a service, the architecture was good, but photography was difficult, but mstly taken from outside, worth a visit.

It's a beautiful building full if history and amazing religious art. The entrance is free of charge and you can walk, a pray in the little chapels. Try to go during Christmas the have a nice Christmas market right next to the church.

Impressive in size if not in decoration, this cathedral is worth a visit. The interior was sparser than expected, but the scale is impressive. The treasury requires a donation, the rest of the church and cloister is free.

We visited on a dark wet day and the inside was very dark. As well as the lack of light from outside the interior stone work is all very dark - it all feels very medieval.

This beautiful cathedral dominates central Mainz. It is about a thousand years old and is a beautiful red colour externally. The roof and the cloisters were damaged by Allies bombs in the war but both are now back to their best. It is rather gloomy inside but well worth a visit to see the lovely stained glass windows.

When entering this church bear in mind that every statue and every column was carved out of stone by hand. The beauty is breath taking. Explore every room. Go through to the abby where the nuns and monks live. You can easily spend over an hour here. You can take photos but without a flash.

It's very hard to miss this Cathedral as you're walking around town. It takes up an entire block though it is completely surrounded by the town that grew up against it. It's a little more Gothic than I prefer though it has traces of Romanesque architecture as well (since it is over a millennium old). I love the way there... More

This is a lovely and big cathedral, centrally located in Mainz. The cathedral is over a thousand years old, and despite that, it looks well taken care of, although I have to say parts of its interior did feel gloomy (and not just the crypt). Don't miss the beautiful painted glass windows and the lovely courtyard.

The Mainz Cathedral goes back more than a 1.000 years in time! Enjoy a quiet moment just off from the busy farmers market, right in front of the "Dom". It also holds a very intersting museum. And, if you are lucky, on certain Saturday mornings, you can enjoy a wonderful FREE organ concert ...
