The Heumarkt is one of the largest squares in Cologne's old town.
It is best known for its fairly high concentration of brewery cafés, where you can enjoy a delicious glass of freshly tapped Kölsch. A good way to get acquainted with the brewery pubs and restaurants.
A Christmas market with attractive iceskating area is set up on the Heumarkt during the Advent period.
Centrally on the square stands thee statue of the Prussian King Frederick William III.

When I travel, I always have one favorite place that I return to to take photos and see again.
This was the square I liked best.
The municipality house, which is special, is located here.
The statue of the gentleman on horseback can be found here.
Lots of cool buildings.
Lots of restaurants.
Great square with a short way to the harbor and the promenade or the other way to Kölnerdommen or the opposite way again to the Ferris wheel and the chocolate museum.

Weihnachtsmarkt or Christmas Market in this square is the best of my stay in Koln for the New Year holidays. Place where those who want to skate have their ice rink, those who want to drink a good beer in the varieties they want or a mulled wine, eat a Bratwurst, savory or sweet crepes, waffles or whatever they want. Enjoying the Christmas decorations is an unforgettable experience. With long hours, even on holidays. Unforgettable experience to share.

Heumarkt is one of the largest squares in Cologne and is located near the Rhine. Characterized by the equestrian statue of Frederick William III, King of Prussia, it is an area with a high concentration of clubs and shops and therefore always very busy. During the Christmas period the square hosts markets and an ice rink.

Very nice place. Food was delicious, service was good. They had even a Glohwein which was a bonus on a relatively chilly afternoon. Goulash soup, venison goulash and grilled sausages were very tasty. Sausages in fact were the best I had in Germany this time around. Hightly recommend this place, will not be dissapointed.

The Heumarkt is a central square in the old town. In the morning he lies peacefully in the sunlight (if available), from noon in the adjacent pubs and restaurants with outdoor dining the bear taps. A major tourist attraction as the former market square is in the old town and close to all the major tourist attractions in Cologne. The square is pretty much dominated by the equestrian sculpture of Friedrich Wilhelm III in the centre of the square, which by the way is magnificent. Like typical European public squares, there’s an array of restaurants and cafes around the square. The square has a lovely old town feel with its cobbled stones and traditional architecture, but still very touristy!
The square is also very easy to get to as there’s a tram stop and underground station.

It is an open space, a square in old city area. This square is close to Rhine River, less than 200m from the river where most of river cruise trips started at several wharfs. The Deutzer Bridge is also at walking distance from this square. Most of the stories and reviews of this place are related to Christmas time. Yes, this square is well known for its Christmas festive, when plenty of attractions and food stalls are performed during this time. On the other time, at normal days outside of Christmas seasons, this place just an open space bordered by rows of mixed old and newer buildings. What surprise us here was there are many choices of restaurants here, Pizza, Steak, Mexican, Thai, Argentinian, Italian, Lebanese, Bierhaus, Ice Cream parlour, and cafes, as well as German restaurants. In the mid of the square, standing tall the Equestrian Statue of Friedrich Wilhelm III. The closest Metro Station is Heumarkt U-Bahn Station for Line 1, 7 and 9. Nice place to stroll while exploring old city centre area. From this place to Central Train Station and the well-known Cologne Cathedral, just 1 km walking distance, easy.

Heumarkt, whether you're sitting on the terrasse of a coffee bar or by yourself on a stone (a few meters away from the Rhein) is a nice place to relax and admire the beauty of the view (the old colored houses). Also there's always free wifi there!

Hi, actually no, but it is very close to the river, you can walk max 5 minutes to the promenade and take a sit one of the beautiful places at the river side, or just lay on the grass and enjoy the view of river at one side and Gr.Saint Martin+colorful houses on the other side:)
