- 138Paul138Canterbury, United Kingdom1,353 contributionsAmazing viewsLocated on the opposite side of the river from the Cathedral you can walk across the river via main railway bridge which has a pedestrian and cycle path. Ahead of you is a tall round tower. Follow the obvious path and you’ll arrive at the foot of the tower. There is a large sign outside saying ‘ Cologne View’. Go inside and pay 5euro per adult. You then take the lift to the outside viewing platform. Tall glass panels surround the edge. The views of Cologne are amazing and you can walk all the way around to see different vistas of the city. It’s definitely worth going to. Check website for opening times.Visited December 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 2 December 2023
- BobN06Avondale, Pennsylvania721 contributionsRecommended if you decide to walk over the bridgeEssentially a viewing platform across the river from the city center just at the end of the Hohenzollern bridge. An overview look at the city. Many of the landmarks like the Koelnmesse (an important WWII site for detentions and deportations) become more apparent, especially after a visit to the NS Documentation Center.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 20 June 2024

We took the underground train across the river from the city to the Cologne Triangle and then the lift for the 28 floors to the viewing gallery. The glass-walls of the viewing gallery has graphics on it so you can tell what you're looking at in the distance. After taking it all in, we walked back to the city along the railway bridge with its tens of thousands of 'lovelocks' fastened to the bridge railings.

Admittedly, we had a bit of a hard time to find the place, as it is a building giving way into an inner courtyard... in which you cannot enter through said courtyard and entrance to the Observation deck section is a the back of the building, facing the train tracks.
Indications were not very clear, to say the least.
Once you've found how to get in the place, you're taken up by an elevator that stops a couple of floors lower than the deck itself... which you have to climb the stairs to reach.
Once you've reached the deck, it is a 360-degree deck, with glass panels surrounding it and having some buildings-of-interest highlighted on said panels, all around.
The place delivers what it is intended for and is rather cheap to get in.
To be fair, the place cannot be to blame for Cologne not having a very great skyline. Other than the classic railway bridge / Cathedral combo, there aren't so many picturesque angles to be seen from the top.
But, worth going up (if no long wait) while on that side of the Rhine.

The triangular tower offers an exceptional view of Cologne. An absolute recommendation for everyone. Whether locals, visitors or tourists. Visit this tower and enjoy the view over Cologne. For this purpose, distinctive buildings are named on the windows of the terrace. A selfie with the cathedral in the background completes your visit to the triangular tower. Enjoy.

We took e-scooters from Cathedral square across the bridge which took about 5 minutes.
Entry is €3 and you take an elevator 28 floors to the top. You then climb an additional flight of stairs by foot.
The views from the top are breathtaking and you can spend as long as you like. There is a bar at the top serving tea/coffee and waffles. It's lovely!

walking across the bridge and we had not seen so many love locks. hard to find an empty space but of course we had to put one on inscribed with our names . bit of a tip, if you are going take your own lock as they are monopolising on the fact people will buy a lock. far cheaper to buy at home and take one

The "about" section lists the triangle as temporarily closed. We visited on December 22 and it was open to the public. This is definitely worth the trip across the river to visit. You get some great views of the Cathedral and the Hohenzollern bridge as well as up and down the river. Getting here is easy. We took the red bus tour and got off at the nearby stop and then walked back across the bridge to the cathedral. It's maybe a 15-20 minute walk. Prices are reasonable so add the triangle to your list of things to do in Cologne.

Is it possible to take photographs directly or only through glass windows and barriers?
Written 29 November 2018
I took photos in my phone. Those taken directly against glass were fine. Some others had a reflection.
