Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

There are several shopping streets in Cologne, to be honest non have any interest to me,so many better things to do on holiday than shop, that said I like the modernist architecture and the crowds of people that frequent this street are impressive, personally I try to avoid streets like this but I had to walk down this street heading to one of the wonderful Christmas markets endemic through this city during the Christmas period,Christmas crowds were massive ,if you're planning a holiday to Cologne and into your retail therapy it's a street to most definitely check out.

Although the thought of shopping on any holiday I take sends a cold shiver down my spine I must admit that while walking down Hohe Straße you cannot help but be impressed with the crowds of people who head here and the modernist architecture along this street, I have no interest in shopping while on holiday but this street is seriously popular both with locals and tourists alike.
If your into your retail therapy, most definitely well worth checking out if your planning a holiday to Cologne.

A main pedestrian shopping street that runs from the side of the Cathedral to Shildergasse. It is busy and congested during the day and weekends, but when we walked down late afternoon weekday, it was pretty tame. Many shops but few restaurants. Some chain stores and some local old time department and specialty stores. I would not clasify it as upscale, but if shopping is your thing, you will probably find it here. Wheelchair accessible.

I lived in Cologne for 3 years in the early 70’s when Hohe Str and Schildergasse were worthy of note. Quality retail, mix of retail choices, clean, inviting and a must do if visiting. Having returned every 2nd year or so since, is regrettably now a junk zone with minimal choice other than sports shoe type places, normal shoe type places, fast food, cheap carpets, building construction and basically down market sorts of options other than a small handful of respected jewelry / fragrance shops plus a reasonably decent department store (Kaufhof).
It’s basically (in my view) awful and to be avoided. It ain’t what it used to be. Hoards of tourists, every 2nd man, woman and child seemingly with ‘tobacco’ in the mouth (this is a major Euro issue for non smokers!) plus touts in your face for this deal or that deal... or simply after a buck to fund the next meal..or beer. Give it a wide berth. There is plenty of good shopping to be had in surrounding streets (eg Mittlestr etc). It’s all rather sad.

Hohe Street is a very long shopping street that is packed with all manner of shops, there's all manner of retail outlets along the street both high end and boutique.
Along with the shops you have innumerable cafe's and restaurants and though I detest shopping on any holiday I must admit with it being the Christmas time I couldn't resist getting some great chocolates and cheeses along this shopping street,I know I couldn't get these items back in my home town of Liverpool.
Well worth checking out.

The street starts from the cologne cathedral and is the main shopping artery of the city. Good thing is that the street is only for pedestrians and free from the menace of vehicles. A range of shops here starting from international brand chains to a few local standalone shops. I bought some cosmetics and chocolates for myself from here.

The place is a nice shopping alley with an array of shops lined up on both sides of the street offering some quirky retail outlets to shop off. We purchased some cosmetics from a douglas shop. The alley is only for pedestrians which is a good thing for shoppers.

After visiting the Cathedral we took a short walk along this pedestrian street.
Like the main shopping street in any major city, you can buy just about anything, from clothes and shoes to electronic equipment from the major worldwide chains. Numerous souvenir shops offer Cologne mementos to the tourists that are the majority of people on the street.
A highlight of the visit was the opportunity to sit at a nice outside cafe and enjoy a couple of Kolsch beers.

I am not sure how long this street is, but I am sure it is ultra popular. So popular in fact that it is impossible to do any window shopping or even walk comfortably down the street. The street was so packed with people going both directions that stopping was like trying to stand still in a river with rapids. The only break was to duck into a store now and then that might be less crowded, but then most are not air conditioned and very hot inside. After torturing ourselves for an hour on this street we crossed over to a quieter street and back to our hotel.

Located near the Dom, the pedestrian street is Cologne's premier shopping destination with major brands and luxury stores lining it. It has been Cologne's main street since Roman times and now extends from the Dom to Schindlergasse.
