The Bonn Minster was built in the 11th century in Romanesque style, probably on top of a previous places of worship from the 2nd and 6th century, although several extensions and reconstructions were also built in Gothic style.
The shape is a three-nave cruciform basilica with a crypt under which was a burial vault.

The church was destroyed and rebuilt several times. the last time after WWII and was restored recently.
Admission is free, although a (small) dobation will always be appreciated.

Beautiful cathedral - still lots of scaffolding around, but we did manage to go inside for a quick look. The architecture is just amazing. Definitely worth a visit whilst in Bonn, and close to the market.

This is a beautiful Roman Catholic church, built over the 11th to 13th century. Its architecture is Romanesque and somewhat unique. The organ and its pipe trumpets look very nice. The organ has four upper keyboards, plus the foot keyboard. It is a very complex instrument to play. The church has beautiful stained-glass windows, especially for those who like a lot of blue colour in the mosaics. The ends of the aisle pews are ornate. For the church of its size, it has a large number of sculptures.

It is very amassing the such a beautiful church was build in a small community about 800 to 1,000 years ago.

Bonn Minster (also known as the Basilica of St Martin) is an imposing building in central Bonn. It was built between the 11th & 13th centuries and although it may be an architectural gem of its time I personally found it quite an unattractive church externally, rather heavy and dull. However, we thought we'd take a look inside and were pleased to find it much more attractive but by no means beautiful. In essence it's just a rather big, ordinary church but is worth a quick peek if you happen to be passing by or want to take a little time out to rest, reflect and pray. No charge is made for visiting this church so it's easy to just drop in for a few minutes.

It's a great cathedral to see. While it is currently closed for renovations, you can walk around it and still visit the cloister. The front facade is very interesting and looks to be a later addition. Very centrally located so almost hard to miss!

I have in the past visited a lot of cathedrals and churches, thus I can boldly say that I love the architecture of the church and there are a lot of details to beheld here. I would definitely give this one a four stars if I were merely judging the architecture itself but there is the downturn of the staff. When you book a full tour here I had the feeling that the staff did not want me there and my friend also felt a certain annoyance whenever we asked questions or waited a little to look at things in more detail. The atmosphere is however a little scary here and I felt an awkward strangeness to this place when walking through the old stone walls. I'm not sure if it was like this with other visitors as well, but I must say that there is some sort of dark aspect to the whole church.

sad to say but after awhile they all start looking a bit alike. Nice to visit but nothing really stood out.

The Bonn Minster is located in Münsterplatz, 5min walk from main train station.
The Bonn Minster is a Roman Catholic church in Bonn. It is one of Germany's oldest churches, having been built between the 11th and 13th centuries,

During my visit in July 2018, the church was closed and should be for a long time, as the city planed big renovations for an amount of approx. EUR 20mios.
Anyway, it is still the main attraction of the city with Beethoven.

Unfortunately the Munster was closed when we visited - and will be for at least the next 2 years. The cloisters and shop were both open however. The cloisters proved to be a pleasant 10-minute diversion.

The church is not that special or different from others. It has its historical value, of course. But what I consider 5 stars is the garden in the cloister center. One of my favorite places during the summer.
