- Rodney PPerth, Australia508 contributionsGreat to explore and get lunchWe had a great lunch at one of the stalls in the market. Nothing fancy, but fresh and abundant. It was also fun to have a look around and see the produce available. I'd recommend it if you're in the neighbourhood.Visited September 2023Travelled as a coupleWritten 13 September 2023
- Liege-Bastogne-LiegeZurich, Switzerland455 contributionsseventy years today and going strongThis is a superb find in te middle of Frankfurt, just off the old town. Today, in fact - 8th June 2024, it celebrates it's seventy years. It has all kinds of festivities planned for today and we were delighted to have found it yesterday. It is a buzzy, busy spot with hundreds of fruit and veg sellers, spice provenders, butchers, fishmongers, bakers, sandwich makers and tiny restaurants, snugly squeezed along the aisles. Every corner of this light, airy hall, is filled with activity, seating is offered anywhere it can be found. Upstairs has a mezzanine along one side that houses maybe a dozen little bistro-style restaurants and the odd specialist butcher or cheese monger. We stopped for an unhurried and lovely lunch upstairs, we found a winner, I'm sure they all are. It is so worth a visit, don't rush.Visited June 2024Travelled with friendsWritten 8 June 2024
- Thomas MDiscovery Bay, California13 contributionstrue European indoor market, must see in Frankfurt. This is a real “market” with lot’s of takeaway, fresh produce, massive amounts of meats (raw and cured) and flowers. Great experience just walking around. Very “old school” and worth a visit.Visited June 2024Travelled as a coupleWritten 10 June 2024

Lots of fresh produce and plenty of opportunities to try samples of the various foods that are on sale. Not a must see attraction though a pleasant way to spend an hour or so.Visited August 2024Travelled with familyWritten 28 August 2024

We were well aware of the status of this place as a popular local food market. However, upon a brisk walk through the venue, we decided that nothing in particular caught our fancy. It did seem very popular during the Friday mid-day lunch rush, and seemed to serve a local crowd. Note - while many of vendors sell entrees, just as many, if not more, sell grocery items not suitable for immediate consumption (i.e. raw meat and produce).

The Kleinmarkthalle is not just a market. This is a concentration of the best and selected products from different countries. There are rare fruits, aromatic spices and exotic nuts, wines, as well as a huge selection of Italian and French sausages. Cheese, pickles and spices, many types of pastries! At the entrance, the smell of famous German sausages is immediately intoxicated, which are prepared for you right there and in the heat of the heat, put on a paper plate next to a fresh bun and sprinkled with mustard.
A smoking aromatic sausage with spicy or sweet German mustard in the middle of the merry bustle of the market ... What could be better? On the second floor - the freshest fish for amateurs and gourmets. Be sure to go if you are in Frankfurt. Eat there or take home with you, try authentic German food for dinner or breakfast in the morning.

We had an interesting visit to the market. It was relatively close to the Christmas market. There was a mixture of local people and tourists. Since we were just day visitors we did not purchase anything though we thought about it with each booth that we passed. The hallways were quite narrow so I can imagine how crowded it must get during the summer. We really enjoyed the English Market in Cork and this is in the same flavor though not as many options or places to eat. If you have some free time and want to see where the locals shop, spend some time and no doubt money visiting. Enjoy.

This is a real institution in Frankfurt! The Kleinmarkthalle is a covered market with products from all over the world open from Monday to Saturday.
On sunny days (actually even on not sunny days), everyone gathers there to have a glass of wine from the Hollander Hof. All Frankfurt meets there, Students, families, old, young... A place to go if you want a glimpse of real Frankfurt.

A taste of the local market, selling fresh produce and frozen meats, to nuts and dried goods, to flowers, home decorations and beverages.
Interesting insight to local marketplace, not many options of ready-to-eat / dine-in cooked food though.
It's also a rather small market, with just 2 levels, can possibly complete in 30 mins unless you have deep interests in fresh produce.
It's a short walk to Römer Pils Brunnen, for tourists who would like a taste of traditional German cuisine

What a wonderful experience. Fruits and vegetables from all over the world. Pastries to die for, coffees, wine and beer of every variety. So many choices of meats, patés, salami s that I was overwhelmed. A must experience for all who come to Frankfurt.

We visited towards the end of the day / closing time. It was therefore fairly quiet. During our visit, open and close times were Mon - Fri 08.00 - 18.00 and Sat 8.00 to 16.00. It is what we would call a typical very good market offering good quality fresh foods. It would be nice if the UK had such great markets to buy produce from.

Cool indoor market if you’re looking to grab a quick bite or coffee. Quite small so easy to navigate and enough shops with your basic grocery needs. Really cool traditional German clock shop just outside

So many delicious options and other great stuff! I was visiting from the US and was taken here during a walking tour. A very nice “taste” of German culture. The guide says it isn’t a tourist spot, just a market the locals shop. Very pleased and will visit again.

If you're looking to eat like a local and enjoy a wide variety of options, this is the place for you. I visited downtown Frankfurt and stopped here on a walking tour. I came back later in the afternoon on my own for more time to explore. Schreiber is my top recommendation. The owner has been making the sausage and mustard by hand for 60 years. From butchers to fresh produce, pasteries to ready made meals, the market has plenty to offer anyone. There are also free public restrooms.

Is there enough space for a pram or would it be better to have him in a carrier?
Written 24 October 2019
For sure there’s enough space for a pram. Ideally don’t go at peak times like lunch and you’ll be safer. Like it was said before, there may not be any lifts. I know there is a decent size staircase up to the second floor but there are only restaurants and a few shops up there. Majority are on the main floor and it shouldn’t be a problem

There is paid parking in several places nearby and there are a couple of street parking spaces for free but they are of a rare kind.

DANKE an ALLE.
Rudi
