There is an English audio guide on an iPod (you have to give a driving licence or ID as a deposit), but it is reather a suplementary info - though interesting and useful. Still you have to read a lot. The levels are well structured...More

Wonderfully designed and laid out. Could have spent the whole day here. Difficult to pick out areas to focus on so best to simply work up the museum from the ground floor.

Very impressive exhibition featuring a lot of info about history, technology etc. Warning: it is really big, spans on 9 floors of the building, you need a lot of time and endurance to visit everything, I would not recommend it for children

Being a former seafarer, I was keen to visit here. It is good, reasonably priced and passes a few hours. Pity more English translation was not offered.

Classic example of a museum collection founded by the drive of one man. The legacy of the late Peter Tamm is in need of interpretation and development if it is to be sustainable and appeal to a broad audience.

We were compressed for time and only had 50 minutes to spend. You could easily do 90-120 minutes depending on your interests. Well laid out. Dont miss the mini-subs out the back door or the periscope.

Spread over 9 floors (or rather decks) this is heaven for anyone remotely interested in maritime history. Many intricate ship models, uniforms, medals, marine artefacts and ephemera means that you can spend many hours just browsing the objects here. The entire 8th floor is given...More

We spent a half-day exploring and enjoying the nine floors of Hamburg's International Maritime Museum with it's rich collection of seafaring history from ancient boats to the latest oceanic research. On the top floor is an outstanding collection with thousands of ship models, most in...More
