tourists time you can be on your own, because of the circuitousness of the park. It's very huge, so you can find a new and different way to walk around there everytime and never get bored. Besides the amazing work of the gardeners in the park, which is very beautiful independent of the time of the year, you can discover a few buildings, like the chinese teahouse or the roman bath. On top of that, you can visit the Castle of Sanssouci with all the stairs and plants around, it makes a stunning look and it's definitly a must-see at your visit in Potsdam.
Moreover, the park offers the best place to do sport outside. Next to the many ways, which are appropriate for jogging, The stairs close to the Castle of Sanssouci or the Orangerie are also perfect for some endurance train. After that you can visit a very nice and tiny café near the mill.
The only problem is that there a not so many toilets around, so I substract one point.

This is a massive park, and just like the rest of Potsdam, it's full of palaces and similar objects. If you want to see them all in one day, better bring a bike or a scooter, because it's going to take some time. Also, be careful not to pick too hot a day for your visit, because there simply isn't that much shade.

These gardens are a perfect accompaniment to Sanssouci palace. The unique design of the different levels is certainly interesting, with a wonderful view from both above and below. It would have been nice to see some flowers in the Summertime, however it is still a lovely garden with a big fountain and lovely to stroll through. A should-do if you are planning on coming to Sanssouci.

It is quite amazing how well it has been built. I just love the stairs leading to the palace with the little glass openings for the plants. They can be opened when the weather is warm and shut during cold months. It used to be a vineyard but now I am not sure what was growing there.

Frederick the Great’s, King of Prussia’s , summer palace is well worth the visit. Located In Potsdam, a quick train ride from Berlin (less than 1 hour) , it’s nice to get out of Berlin and enjoy historical Potsdam as well. The German Versaille gardens and grounds were beautiful. Make sure to visit San Souci Palace as well. Reserve tickets for the Palace ahead of time because you need a ticket. A nice day full of history and beauty.

Visited the park during early spring, so not much gardens and trees out, but still very interesting from a historical perspective. Very impressive palace and terraces. Huge open space and very popular for walking and running. Would like to return in summer to experience the garden.

We made a short stop @ this stunning garden/Palace from our City Sightseeing Bus Tour. As it was a Monday the palace was closed as expected but the design of the gardens with the impressive walk up almost made up for not being able to see inside.....just wish we had more time and not so rushed!

This place is VAST... making sure you have comfy shoes or better still cycle... (although keep in mind that bikes not allowed in some parts). Lots of really interesting buildings.

We were at Sanssouci mainly to see the Palace, but we also enjoyed the substantial gardens that surround the main buildings and are an attraction in their own right. Beautifully maintained, we could quite understand the many simply strolling and enjoying the views.

Sanssouci Park is very large with a cluster of buildings in one spot and then others are far flung. If your time is limited to an afternoon I would suggest to plan your visit around the Sanssouci Palace, the Bildergalerie, NeueKammern, and the Orangerie cluster. If your time is really limited - just a morning visit - you might then opt for only Sanssouci Palace and the Neues Palace, assuming both are open on the same day. To reduce walking time to these 2 palaces, take bus #695 which has a stop at each of these palaces. Bus stops are marked with an "H" so are easy to spot.
The palaces open at 10 am. I bought an online ticket, Sanssouci Plus for 21 Euro with a timed entry slot for the Sanssoucie Palace. This ticket allowed entry to all the buildings in Sanssoucie as each has an entry fee around 6E so that ticket was worthwhile for us as we entered quite a few buildings. It also allowed entry to other palaces in the Potsdam area, but I didn't have time to explore those. Audioguides used in Sanssouci were included in this fee. At the Orangerie and Charlottenhof, you need to show your paper online ticket to the ticket office at each of these 2 palaces in order to receive a timed entry slot. Tours are guided in these 2 palaces and the timed entry tickets allow the guides to limit the groups to a certain number like 20-25 to a group. Usually you could get the next guided tour, but the Orangerie might be busy so you may have to wait for a guided tour time. Definitely arrange a timed entry slot for Sanssouci Palace as this attraction will be very busy with tour groups. In this palace, there is no guided tour. Visitors use audioguides and go at their own pace through the rooms. You walk in one direction to the exit. Most visits to these palaces in the park were around 30-45 minutes.
Getting to the Sanssoucie Park from Berlin Alexanderplatz was very easy using the RE1 train. We bought an ABC day pass for 7.70 euro which covered all train and bus tickets for the day. I bought the day pass ticket at the train station from the DB office rather than from a machine. At Alexanderplatz, the RE1 train uses Platform 2 - go up the stairs and look at the platform numbers. At Potsdom, the RE1 train uses either Platform 3 or 4 and is located at ground level. Both stations are large with bakeries, drink and sandwich outlets. Pay toilets are 1 euro. At Potsdam we boarded the #695 bus right outside the station. The bus was packed on our 9:30 am ride so the sights of the town were not easy to appreciate. There is a website that shows the route that the bus takes in case you don't want to get off at the Sanssoucie bus stop - right in front of the Palace.
The gardens around Sanssoucie Palace are green with fountains. Some beds have annuals and roses, particularly those around the major buildings, but the gardens are not a highlight. The terraced garden at Sanssoucie Palace has a row of grape vines growing on each level with the staircase ending in a pleasant fountain area with benches. Paths lead to similar side gardens, also green with a fountain.
The ground/fine grit walking paths are wide; some are edged with pleached trees. There are 2 main roads that cross the Park with many side paths that lead to other buildings in the Park. The further away you get from the Sanssoucie Palace the wilder the park with unmown grass growing under the trees. We did not have time to visit the Botanical gardens. It's about a 20 -25 minute walk between Sanssoucie Palace and Charlottenhof and about 15 minutes between the Orangerie and Charlottenhof.
Sanscoucie Palace is worthwhile to see if you like baroque decor, but the other palaces were a disappointment. Neues Palace was closed the day we went. The rooms tended to be on the small side, the art on the walls did not appeal (mostly copies), and the rooms seemed cluttered with unappealing furniture. In the Orangerie and Charlottenhoff the bilingual guide speaks German to the group. English speaking guests receive a sheet with English information about the contents of the rooms and the guide answers questions in English. Charlottenhoff is the smallest palace - really just a large house with a very plain exterior used in the summer time. The gardens surrounding this building were very attractive with roses, lavender, and colorful annuals. The Roman Baths had little to see - 1 room that looked like an atrium and another room with a photo display.
We ate a quick lunch in the self-serve section of the Movenpick restaurant which only served white wurst on a bun, with cabbage slaw, or with chips for around 4 Euros. The restaurant area was much nicer for an elegant lunch. Toilets were free in the restaurant.
To return to the Potsdam Haufbahnhof, we exited the park at Charlottenhof and caught the 606 bus just outside the Park.
Be prepared for a lot of walking on your visit to Sanssouci Park with the sights scattered around the park. Take along a map of the garden printed from the Internet which shows the routes to walk to reach the attractions in the park. A map is needed as there were few signs in the Park showing the paths to take to these attractions.

Hola... visitar sólo el parque del palacio es gratuito? y de acceso libre? Se puede recorrer los lunes, aunque esté cerrado el Palacio? Gracias
Written 19 January 2024
The park is for free. About Mondays - yes - open all year round

When walking in the park is it possible to walk by schloss charlottenhoff, orangerieschloss, neues palais, chinesischs teehaus, schloss sanssouci, and Romische Bader. Mainly just want to see the outside architecture of the buildings.
Written 25 July 2019
You can walk by all of them but entrance is based on paid-admission at the start of your visit. Those prices are a bit steep. It's Germany -- nothing is cheap.

Which part of the park might be suitable for private, yet romantic proposal? I was thinking the chinese tea house or the Weinbergterrassen. Any recommendations based on what you have seen?
Written 14 June 2019
A nice area was an open space with a statue of someone with a bow and arrow by a pond. There was was a beige color building at the top of that hill that is a large space and secluded that looks down on a manicured green space and the statue.
When it is not busy, it is quiet and romantic with a splendid view, beautiful architecture, greenery and water.
I do not remember the name of that exact spot.

Just to ask how far is it to get from the train station to the park by bike?
Roughly how much is bike hire?
Hope to go on Sunday!
Many thanks

Jeg vil anbefale buss til parken, for så å gå rundt istedenfor å sykle.

Public parking available near Sanssouci?
Written 26 May 2018
I honestly can't remember but don't recall a car park. Potsdam is not very big and you should be able to park nearby on a street and walk.

Плата за фото только с фотоаппаратов или за смартфоны тоже надо платить?
Written 1 September 2017
За то, чтобы сфотографировать на телефон тоже надо платить. В любом зале обоих дворцов могут подойти и попросить предъявить наклейку об оплате, либо попросить удалить фотографию.
Written 4 September 2017
Yes, the park is open all year round from dawn to dusk.
