Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This square stone on Domhshof, marked with a cross is the spot where Gosche Gottfried was executed by beheading in 1831 - Bremen's last ever public execution. Gesche Gottfried poisoned 15 people with arsenic between 1813 and 1828 (mostly her close relatives and neighbours). Noone knows why and she never really explained her motives. What is known is that Hamburgers thought her a saintly woman, cursed by terrible misfortune, as they saw her nurse so many of her close family and friends. This was why when the truth emerged, people were outraged and showed their contempt for her by spitting on the spot where her head fell, a tradition that continues to this day.

The story behind the stone is very interesting, but the stone itself, well, it's even hard to find with cars parked all around it. But it's right next to the cathedral, so taking an extra couple of minutes to locate it won't hurt.

Just a stone amongst the cobblestones near the market square. More interesting if someone tells you the story behind the stone while you are standing there.

An Attraction?, c'mon!. there are more nice thing to see in Bremen than the stone in the cobbles of cathedral square. Though the history might be interesting but don't spend your time looking for this place. We were here because we saw some people were there and spitting on it.

This is a fun spot to visit and easy to miss. Nothing about spitting for luck - or such. It is to commemorate where the last mass murderer in Bremen (a women) who got away with murder for decades finally met her maker. You'll see spit - it's to show contempt for her heinous crimes

Fortunately this otherwise unmarked “landmark” was easy to find. If it were a chore to get to I would have been bothered. Fortunate for the weeds that grow around it, it is popular as it appears to always be wet. Is this even real? It matters not, we spit, like all the others. Would spit again.

Revolves around a woman found guilty of poisoning family (young and old) and friends over and extended period. She was executed for her vile crimes. Town folk took to spitting on the stone (that marked where she was executed) as a sign of utter disgust with her crimes. The stone and the spitting thereon is equally disgusting but nevertheless part of the local folklore.

There is a story behind this stone about a lady (witch). They say you need to spit on the stone if you want to come back to Bremen.

So, if you commit serial murders and are publicly executed, expect to have people spitting on a stone hundreds of years later in order to commemorate your nasty deeds. (The guilty person was a woman--rare amongst serial killers.)

We thought this "attraction" was not very attractive. BUT I can imagine that if you have some small children with you, they will love the digustingness...
