Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Cool place to wander round, lots of craft shops as well more high end stores. Lots of places to eat and drink especially under the railway arches or in the park facing the river. Came here everyday for dinner or drinks.
Good Sbahn links from the station and tram links next to it. Alexander Platz is only 10mins walk or a few minutes on the tram

The Hackescher Markt is located in the Mitte district and is also an important public transport hub.
Together with the Oranienburger Straße it forms a large concentration of cafes, restaurants, etc.
Nearby you will find the Hackesche Höfe, a restored complex in which all kinds of catering, shops, studios, apartments, etc. are located.
Worth a visit when you are in this part of Berlin.

This area begins outside the S-Bahn station Hackescher Markt, located in Mitte. The square is a major transport hub and also a nightlife hub in Berlin.
You can find plenty of small designer shops here. During our visit, it was a warm and sunny spring day. The square was filled with restaurant and bar terraces.

This is specifically directed at the Kiosk selling train tickets. BEWARE! Run by 2 middle easterners who just ripped me off. charged me double for a round trip ticket from Berlin to Potsdam. I confronted them about it and suddenly they lost the ability to speak English.
I wonder if the Deutsche Bahn knows about this..........

We stayed in Hotel Zoe in this area. It’s a great location. Rail transport is great. Lovely market on Saturday and street music on Sunday afternoon. Plenty of restaurants but look at the reviews before picking one 😉

Very close to our hotel, and a lively spot to stop at one of the cafes and enjoy watching the flow of mainly student visitors with coffee shops and even a Starbucks ! The traditional market has been virtually superseded by gift and souvenir stalls but the hustle and bustle with the trains overhead is worth a visit.

Each courtyard is different from the other, each has beautiful trees and plants, and the architecture of the entrance is gorgeous

Fantastic view and architecture. There are many small hidden shops to drink or eat. The architecture of the surrounding buildings is amazing. The view of the S above makes the place even more astonishing. There are a lot of brand names clothing shops around and both expensive and cheap places to taste delicious food.

This is kind of like a more upper class version of Camden town. Plenty of shops, restraunts and market stools.
We found this street that looked like it had been taken over my anarchists. That was quite interesting.
I wish we spent a little more time here.

The Hackescher Markt is a market square in the district Mitte of Berlin, Germany. It is located at the eastern end of the Oranienburger Straße and the south end of Rosenthaler Straße. Also the Große Präsidentenstraße, the Neue Promenade and the Straße An der Spandauer Brücke come out on the market square. After the German Reunification in 1990 the square has developed into a global, cultural and commercial centre and is famous for its nightlife.

When Friedrich II (Friedrich der Große) in 1750 instructed the town major Count von Hacke to develop the area what is now known as Scheunenviertel, Von Hacke created a market square.
It was therefore called Hackescher Markt, but it took until 1840 before it was officially named after the town major. In 1882 the railway station at Hackescher Markt was opened. The station was then called 'Borse' after the nearby Stock Exchange. In 1951 it was renamed 'Marx-Engels-Platz' during the East German government but in 1992 it was renamed Hackescher Markt Station after the square, where it stopped for so many years. The central hall of the S-Bahns is beautifully made of red bricks and is really worth visiting. At the beginning of the 20th century, the square has developed into the major central hub of Berlin. During World War II, the square and the surrounding buildings were heavily damaged by the allied bombing. After the war the square was part of East Berlin due to the separation of Berlin and was neglected for many years. Instead the city center around Alexanderplatz was rebuilt during the 1960's and became a more important area. Only after the reunification of Germany in 1990 the square was reconstructed again, with more space for pedestrians. Many shops and restaurants of all origin opened at the Hackescher Markt itself and in the arches of the train station. Also the area around the square is developed into a cultural and commercial center. Not with big department stores, but with famous designer shops and small shops offering young and new Berlin labels. Prices around Hakescher Markt are often above average.

A visit to the Hackescher Markt is really worth while. The square is easy accessible by metro or train from Hackescher Markt Station and at night busses stop at the square. Choose from the 150 different restaurants and bars around the square. You will find all the newest trends in dining here as well as in fashion. Close by are the equally named Hackescher Höfe. They consist of eight connected courtyards with shops, apartments, offices, theaters, cinema's and more.

Weekly markets on the square are on Thursdays and Saturdays from 09:00 till 18:00.

I assume the area is open all the time but individual businesses opening times will almost certainly vary, best bet if you have a specific place you want to go to is scout it out before sunday or if not possible google what is there and their opening times.
