I was at z bar when there was an English comedy open mic going on and it was hilarious! I recognized one of the guys from another comedy show in Neukölln I go to regularly, Monday Night Mics. Both shows are great. The one at Z-bar is on Sundays, the other one, well... The guys said they do other shows... More

The bar itself is quite small and decorated in a fairly kitsch manner, but the relatively cheap drinks and friendly atmosphere assured that we spent quite a while drinking here. The bar also has a small cinema which screens mostly free (by the looks of the leaflets) showings. We'd definitely go back! The only potential drawback (or benefit depending on... More

Small, smokey, filled with great people, great drinks and atmosphere - I wouldn't have a Berlin bar any other way than Z-Bar.

We stumbled across this little bar up a side street. Nice beer, even better cocktails. Great staff who are friendly and helpful and the bar has a vibrant atmosphere. Highly recommend.

I was reluctant to review z bar, but noticed it had a couple already so what the hell. Discovered this bar a couple of years ago as some of the group i travelled with were in an apartment nearby. Loved it immediately. Exactly as i thought a Berlin bar should be. Small, dark and smoky (I half expected to see... More

a truly authentic location in the very "center" of the city. relaxed, friendly, affordable. smoker friendly, stays often open till very late with occasional happenings in the back. be it concerts, readings or film screenings its all usually pretty special. their cocktails are great too! totally recommendable for a quiet evening.

Staying in Mitte

Neighbourhood Profile
Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighbourhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
