Terrible Zoo
Nov. 2021 • Couples
The zoo was very poorly laid out, numerous of missing animals and empty enclosures. The enclosures for the animals are not suitable for the animals and more so built for easy cleaning. Tiles, steel and glass surround the animals which obviously makes them depressed. Not worth the money we paid to see such bad conditions. For such a famous, old zoo I expected them to respect the animals rights and freedom to move. I grew up on a farm so I know the amount of space that’s needed for an animal to live in and this just wasn’t even close. Dublin Zoo is much better and is expanding every time I go with big and better enclosures for the animals. Berlin Zoo needs to up their game!

Not bad

Worth visiting but not Autumn/Winter since a lot of animals are unavailable.
In general in comparison with Vienna’s zoo, this one is less attractive.

Great day out with kids or family of any age.

Great place to stroll around for the day. Nice and lush surroundings, animals look well taken care of and there are plenty of different animals. We bought a combo ticket with the aquarium which is definitely worth a visit.
The options to get something to eat were very limited, I guess a few places closed due to Covid so that was a shame.
The area with cats was not yet open so although we did see lions and a tiger we were disappointed as it was due to open during 2021. Not too late yet I guess but did t look like it was about to open anytime soon.

Not a bad day out!

A big range of animals to see that will certainly keep you occupied during your visit. The zoo is nicely spread out so it was not crowded at all when we went. Though during the whole visit we didn’t see a single zoo keeper or member of zoo staff. I felt like they needed more of a presence around the zoo. Some of the animals looked bored and needed some toys!!

Tiny enclosures serving as a prison for depressed animals
Aug. 2021 • Couples
While my title may seems as if I am an extreme vegan who would protest with extinction rebellion it may come as a surprise that I am in fact a farmer who is well used to the welfare and husbandry of animals.

I was in the zoo on a very warm day which would leave many people sunburnt following a day in the sun. The animals looked visibly distressed whether this was due to having little shade to hide in and the extreme heat or for other reasons.

The enclosures themselves seemed tiny compared to other zoos I have been to (Sydney, Dublin etc) for such huge animals and the zoo itself was quite difficult to navigate and was poorly laid out.

Strangely enough there was little barriers between people and the zoo and ones which the parade animals could easily escape into the crowds, can wild animals be tamed enough through ethical means (without drugs or abuse)?

The aquarium was only accessible by leaving the zoo and entering through another street side entrance which gives the appearance it is closed.

Purchase tickets in advance to skip the queue, people online tickets can go straight to the gate while those queueing for a ticket must form a line to the left along the wall

Disappointing!

The lion and tiger area and aquarium was closed. Waste of money and time. It’s a huge park but not worth it at all.
It was on the bucket list, but now I’ll never be back!

Beautiful!

One of my favourite place in Berlin to go with kids. Animals are beautiful, territory is huge. Even though public animal feeding is not available now and other covid restrictions are applied. the zoo remains a very sweet place to visit.

Sad and unsafe
May 2021
Just like any other zoo the spaces for savage animals are tiny and it´s sad to see.
The shocking part for me was to see that there´s no real fence or anything separating the public from the hippopotamus! Anyone could jump and get to them since they´re so close! Can anyone explain that to me? Those animals are dangerous...there could be an accident... are they under the effect of drugs to keep them calm or what is going on there?
Besides there were a kind of antelopes living in the same small space than the hipopotamus, how recommendable is that for those animals? It´s just sad to see...
