We took the east side tour on a sunny afternoon. There were approximately 16 in our group (8 double kayaks). It was an enjoyable paddle up and back down the canal on a nice day but there wasn't much beyond that. Perhaps I am jaded as we kayak often in our local river and on a lake and always do... More

My wife and I have done kayak tours in cities all over the world and this one won’t be memorable. Information from the guide wasn’t awesome, the kayaks weren’t in great shape, the lifejacket wouldn’t even zip closed, and when the tour ended, we realized we wouldn’t do it again. Or recommend it. Blah.

The tour starts at Tiergarten, where you get a detailed explanation on how to paddle in a Kayak (many of these are for two people) and off we went, discovering Zoologischer Garten and the Tiergarten from the water. The very informative Kayak tour guides are very knowledgeable about the histrory of Berlin and we learned about the capital's impressive water... More

Walking, biking, and jogging in berlin. What's next we thought? Kayaking! And we loved it. Took the east tour. One thing I did not get was that the lady responsible said that there's an english tour, but then said it's a private tour..so I wasn't sure why we couldn't go with them although we were there. We ended up going... More

Enjoyed this trip on the River Spree and Landwehr Canal. Double kayaks were stable and easy to paddle. Our first time at going through a lock. Guides offered information on the local area in German and English. There was a stop for water and a snack.

The route through the west city is really nice and the kayaks are just right for a comfy paddling trip even for beginners. As you start in Kreuzberg and end the tour in Tiergarten, you don't even see things twice. Berlin is just great from the water perspective. Nevertheless as the tour was announced as a guided tour, I would... More

Really enjoyed this (did the East tour), took pretty much a whole afternoon (as expected) but definitely glad we made time for it. Not only was there the fun of kayaking, I also enjoyed seeing places from a different angle. The man in charge was German but spoke fantastic English which was brilliant because my German is limited to having... More

For my friends birthday I treated her to the tour. It was great! The sun was shining and we really enjoyed getting away from the city bit. It was just us and one more family so we were a small group. The problem was that our guide mainly spoke to the german family in german. The tour was supposed to... More

Staying in Kreuzberg

Neighbourhood Profile
Kreuzberg
Berlin's revolutionary heart and immigrant roots can both be found in Kreuzberg, but this central neighbourhood is beginning a new chapter. In the 1950s and '60s, Turkish guest workers settled around Kottbusser Tor, while in the 1980s and '90s, rambunctious squatters and artists gathered to live a carefree life here. An old hospital even became a hotspot of riots between squatters and police. Today you can still find the best kebabs in town and many underground clubs, but a lot has changed as well. The hospital has been transformed into an art center, and increasingly you will find new urban cafés, restaurants and designer shops. Rising housing prices and gentrification threaten the spirit of this area along the Spree River, but the neighbourhood’s legacy is upheld by a very engaged community fighting to preserve its rebellious identity.
