Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

The Kulturforum includes the Neue Nationalgalerie, the Museum of Prints and Drawings, the Museum of Decorative Arts, and the Library. The focus of my visit was the recently-opened exhibition of the drawings made by Maarten van Heemskerck, a 16th-century Netherlandish artist, during five years in Rome. Not only drawings and etchings were on display, but also a number of paintings derived from the drawings. The exhibition is well worth a visit, one I complemented with a tour through the splendid general collection.

I only went to the Gemalde Galerie inside th Kulturforum, and while it is not the largest art museum around, it is filled with many, many, high-quality works. Of all the musems I went to in Berlin I would say if you only have time to visit one, this should be it.

We visited the Gemäldegalerie and wanted to see the paintings of "Merchant Georg Gisze" & "Venus and the Organ Player".
The building was very hard to find as we got lost inside the Kulturforum. The staff selling ticket wasn't very helpful as she didn't tell us to put the small rucksack in the locker and didn't give us any leaflet of the gallery. The staff at the door also wasn't very friendly at all (showing stoned face). It was at the end of August and the museum was so hot inside. I would have enjoyed much more if there was air con.
The paintings were fine, I don't know much but my wife was loving it so it must be good. The place was deserted so if this is your cup of tea, then you definitely have to come to see this place.

I went here for a visit to the Gemaldegalerie and it was packed! The Mantegna and Bellini exhibit is was quite interesting. So many big names in the ancient art world in this museum. Although, after a few hours I got a bit tired of seeing different versions of the same biblical stories and headed out.
The grounds are under construction as well as the Neuse gallery (temporarily closed) so it’s a bit confusing with fences and paths

Purpose-built culture centre in West Berlin, built I'd Say as a counterpoint to the Museum Island in East Berlin! The best part of the Forum is the Philharmonia and the Gemäldegalerie.
The Kulturforum is not actually a single attraction. It includes several museums: Gemäldegalerie, Kunstgewerbemuseum (Museum of Decorative Arts), Kupferstichkabinett (Museum of Prints and Drawings, and the Neue Nationalgalerie, with some renovation going on.
Among these, the Gemäldegalerie gallery is definitely is the best, with many paintings by renowned European masters.

This is the place to go if you only have 24hrs in Germany and love Applied Arts and Fine Arts. We planned to visit one museum not realising that there were several to visit. It’s a great place to visit especially for a severe dose of cultural experiences. Also, if you need respite from the cold or heat as we went in Winter when it was bitterly cold.

Architecturally, the Kulturforum doesn't look to be as serious about art as the Museum Island but, in fact, there is more interesting and substantial art here than there. Unfortunately, the principal museum of the Kulturforum is the Gemaldegalerie, which, as a building, looks less like a museum and more like an addition that your uncle with bad taste did-it-himself to expand his home.
Fortunately, the art inside the Gemaldegalerie is generally notable. For example, there are several rare pre-religious awakening Botticelli portraits of Medici family members. Beautiful works! There's also a rare Pieter Bruegel the Elder "Netherland Proverbs;" perhaps not his most notable work (for that go to Vienna), but still exhibiting his unique strengths as a painter. Definitely worth going to this museum!
Fortunately, the adjacent Neue Museum building designed by Mies Van Der Rohe displays more sophisticated modern architecture. When we visited, it had a very large modern art show that was well worth seeing, including Gerhard Richter landscape paintings and a small, but beautiful portrait by Marlene Dumas. All of the above is covered by the 3-day Berlin museum pass. At the same time, the Neue had a "special show" on Marsden Hartley not covered by the pass, which was kind of annoying. But by then, we were art-viewing exhausted so we didn't mind skipping it. (To our delight, this Hartley show came to Los Angeles only a few months later, so we saw it there!).
Also, at the Kulturforum, there is the Philarmonic concert hall and the Print museum, neither of which we had the time or energy to see. I'm not sure why the better art ended up in these less majestic buildings instead of at the Museum Island, but that's the way it is and, aside from the Pergamon there, this is where one should go first to see art when in Berlin.

This collection of Old Master paintings must be one of the best in the world. From 1200 to 1800 the sheer number of important paintings is breathtaking. All the great painters are represented and the layout is one of the most sensible I have ever experienced. The building was specially designed to house the collection and, while it is possible to feel overwhelmed by the sheer numbers, the guide booklet makes sense of what is where. I find that I go into each room and just allow my gaze to settle on one painting that I want to study in depth. In this way I don't get mental indigestion and usually seem to choose artists whose names I recognize. It is a good game: I have even written down and researched some names I haven't recognised and so have extended my knowledge. This is certainly the most comprehensive collection I have ever visited: it is wonderful.
