Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This monument stands in memory of the Sinti and Roma who were persecuted in much the same way Jews were by the Nazis. The memorial is an enclosed area within Tiergarten with a large circular pool with a triangular stone plaque, in reference similar badges that had to be worn by concentration camp prisoners. Around the pool are paving stones, some of which have names of concentration camps carved into them.
The walls of the memorial describe in painful detail about the persecution of Sinti and Roma. Visit this to remind ourselves just how cruel people can be and how not to allow these things to happen again.

After getting through the Brandenburg Gate this memorial site is quite close. History lovers can seek knowledge regarding the past era as it has been mentioned in details on the surrounding walls. Needs to be visited.

This is a relatively recent memorial to the 500,000 Sinti and Roma gypsies that were killed by the Nazi government. It is situated near the Reichstag. We found it on our way from the Reichstag to the Brandenburg gate. There is a circular pool with a triangle in the middle. There are flat stones around , some of which are inscribed with the names of the Nazi death camps where the gypsies died. There is a lot of information about the plight that the Gypsy communities suffered under the Nazi regime. The stark serenity of this memorial naturally induces a sense of quietude and melancholy.Given the barbaric plight that minorities are suffering, particularly at the hands of the IS in recent times, one is but reminded that we human beings have it in us to be unmitigatedly cruel to fellow human beings, just because they look, speak, eat, clothe or worship in a different manner.History invariably and sadly repeats itself.

We came upon this place by accident whilst walking to the Reichstag from the Brandenburg Gate. On the outside were boards with a lot of information about the Sinti and Roma people and how they were persecuted. Inside was a round pool with writing round the outside and outside of that the names of all the concentration camps. I found this one of the most moving and simple monuments I had ever seen, and shed a few tears for all those people, a lovely Memorial to the Sinti and Roma people.

There is music playing as you walk into the memorial and it is very moving. There is a water feature which has words from the poem 'Auschwitz' by the Roma poet Santino Spinelli. The memorial is very close to the Reichstag and Brandenburg gate.
Worth a visit.

So well designed. With sound. A location to let the emotions in. So good, that Berlin and the government is taking care, that this time if terror and horror will remember .

A lot of stones and a lot of names to remind us of some of the very many people who were identified by Hitler as not being suitable for his grand plan. Another very sobering reminder of a dark past.

The memorial was erected in honor of the Sinti and Roma who were actually gypsies. They were persecuted and murdered at the hands of the Nazis between 19339 and 1945. They were considered to be asocial and inferior and threat to the Aryan race. The number murdered has been placed in the tens of thousands. Another solemn reminder in Berlin.

The memorial lays a little hidden in the Tiergarten right across the Reichstag. Although located closely to the Holocaust memorial it is often unknown by toutists and locals. A powerful place with black water and a single fresh flower and such a strong atmosphere. Makes you wanna kneel down before history.

Memorial To The Sinti And Roma Victims Of National Socialism is a very simple but extremely powerful and poignant memorial .
During the second world war between 220,000 and 500,000 Sinti and Roma people were murdered by the Nazis, this Nazi genocide was known as Porajmos.
This is a very sombre Memorial,a dark circular pool of water ,the triangular shaped stone in the centre represents the shape of the badges worn by the concentration victims, the memorial was designed by Dani Karavan and the bronze letters around the pool edge are the poem by Santino Spinelli called Auschwitz.
The poem although short is haunting ," gaunt eyes,dead eyes,cold lips,quiet,a broken heart,out of breath,without words,no tears."
German Chancellor Angela Merkel officially opened the memorial on the 24 October 2012 in the beautiful Tiergarten very close to the Brandenburg gate and Reichstag building.
A sombre and moving memorial and one I highly recommend you visit if your in the area.
