Karl Marx Allee - an impressive boulevard in the former GDR, with communist style architecture/buildings. The old teaching/education building at the top of of the boulevard had a mosaic mural that wraps itself around the building, so interesting listening to the history of the city....More

Karl Marx Allee is an awesome looking boulevard in the former GDR that is a throw back to the communist style architecture that is so prevalent in countries that suffered under Soviet oppression. The street was constructed after 1945 and is 90 metres wide and...More

A nice long work if you have a bit of extra time to explore Berlin. The information plaques along the street gives information on the history, a walking tour would probably add to this though.

Karl-Marx-Allee is a 2 km avenue in the east part of Berlin. You'll see soviet architecture as well the concept of the imponence of the main avenues.

Nice to walk along this street with typical DDR buildings. Start at Warschauer Strasse to end near Alexander Platz

If you want to see a show-piece of the Soviet era, simply view the buildings on Karl Marx Allee across the major 2 mile stretch (as well as the area around it). The buildings are a stark reminder of the very drab architecture of the...More

As soon as we got out of the U-Bahn there was a lady behind my husband, lurking and clearly trying to pick-pocket. The architecture was interesting and it was worth taking a wander down here however it felt very deprived in places with large groups...More

Unless you are a communist buff or interested in seeing the Cold War era I wouldn't go here. It's cold, hardly any places to get as much as a cup of coffee & the buildings are very unflattering

It's a street with much of the Soviet and DDR buildings remaining. More interesting to me for its historic signifance than for its current appeal.

When you arrive at Warschauer Strasse in the heart of
the district, you have found one of Berlin’s party
hotspots. At night in Friedrichshain, the energy is
palpable and the streets of this old worker's quarter
are full of street musicians. On one hand, you may
find a bar with international crowds, electronic
music, long lines and panoramic views - on the other,
an outside venue by old train yards featuring decrepit
