Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

This is my favorite area of Berlin but it's not for everyone. Not the cleanest or most picturesque, but it has a real lived-in charm and is a wild mix of nationalities and subcultures. Gritty but generally safe, there are loads of cheap restaurants from many countries and eclectic independent businesses. Graffiti galore and quite a few parks and green spots (Gorlitzer being fun but be wary there). An amazing experience.

At kottbusser tor metro station some kind of junkie kicked me to my knee. It became purple after that. It was a daytime and I was with my aunt and bf there. Don't use metro lines in under floors. Elsewere Kreuzberg is good and urban neighbourhood.

Kreuzberg is for all the hipsters out there. Filled with colorful murals, quaint cafes and unique restaurants, this neighborhood attracts both locals and tourists alike, so it feels very different than other areas in the city

The first time in Berlin I wandered aimlessly in the more touristy parts of Berlin, and concluded I didn't like the city. What a mistake! Now that I know the city, I feel at home, and spend most of my time in Kreuzberg around Schlesisches Tor. This area is full of life, with great places to hang out. It is ground zero for riverside bars/clubs, beautiful biergartens, charming cafés, street art, parks, and of course amazing (and cheap) ethnic food.

This area is full of graffiti, immigrants, kebab vendors and I was asked more than once if I wanted to buy drugs. It does not even feel like being in Germany, with the whole Turkish kebab shops, rather in Istanbul or some other Middle East city. Stay away from here, nothing to see and to do.

Kreuzberg has to sides. The good one and the bad one. The good one is how it looks. The neighborhoods are really beautifull, I liked the houses and streets. It is good to go there during the day to appreciate it the most. And it’s definatelly safer then. As Kreuzberg by night has a bad reputation of being not safe. And I actually have to admit it as I was nearly robbed there, a guy tried to still my purse, but I was holding it very hard and he finally gave up. So watch out.

I stayed with a friend in Kreuzberg for almost a week, and I wanted to move in by the end of my time there! It's such an interesting area of the city. Plenty of public transport options, including the rivercat/ferry, lovely tree-lined streets, beautiful walks along the canal, and so many interesting shops and places to eat. It's a very multicultural area which makes for a fantastic community and diversity in places to eat and shop. It is also quite cheap to eat and stay in Kreuzberg, compared to other parts of Berlin. Make sure you check out Reihenberger Str for some funky shops, cafes and bars.

Go to Berlin 1x a year.
Went to a Craftbrew pub in this area.
Was pick pocketed by a group of 4 Arab or North Africans.
Happened so fast I could not react. There are cool places there but
be careful, do not engage in any interaction on the street esp with 2 or more
persons. It starts very harmless but they will be over before you know it.

I stayed at a friend's house in Kreuzberg for a few weeks now, and I definetely recommend it. It has restaurants with food from all over the world (on our corner alone there were Nepalesian, Indian, Brazilian, Italian and Japanese) and very interesting little shops and markets. There are U-Bahn stations all over the neighbourhood and also Bus stops. Cool bars and cafes are filled with interesting people.

Because it was a creepy neighborhood with no restaurants, shops or attractions. It was slightly dark around 3 pm and it was already unpleasant to walk in, plus, there was nothing to do there.....

Could you tell me which part of Kreuzberg is best to get aquainted with the special air of that area of Berlin. I mean a place with lots of galeries, shops, bars, plenty of people. I am visiting Berlin with an older person in her 70ies who cannot walk too much, so I would like to avoid dozens od kilometers in search for the right place. Thanks in advance. Tom

Hola Andrea,

Gracias!

We are staying in Mitte how far to Kreuzberg and can we travel on public transport Thanks

It´s not far from Mitte to Kreuzberg. I would think less than 10 minutes with the underground. Very easy to find and easy to use the underground too. Look for the sign U

If I am interested in The Hop-on and Hop-Off and purchase my ticket here (in Canada), must I start my tour at only one location?.
What is the best way to get from the Airport to my Pension-which is near the Rudow-Hermanplatz Subway?
When I am tired of strolling and seeing what should not be missed - a good places to shop?
Written 12 March 2015
I have never used the Hop-on Hop-Off, but I am quits sure you can get on from any point.
Are you arriving at Tegel Airport or Schönefeld? Tegel is basically close to the center (6-8 minutes). In any case there will be a bus just outside the arrival terminal. Get on the bus and get off by an underground (U) I recommend you to download the map and prepare where to get on and where to change line. It´s very convenient in Berlin.
The taxi´s in Berlin offers a spacial system called "kurzstrecke". Meaning if you stop a taxi in the street and travel max 2 kilometers, the price is only 4 euros. But you need to tell the driver you want this special tarif.
My favorite places for shopping in Berlin are these:
Friedrichstrasse (Berlin Mitte). Simply a beautiful street for shopping. In general the area Mitte is incredibly nice.
Hackesche-Hoefe This area is also very nice. Many small galleries, an outdoor market, small special shops and cafes.
Area around Kurfurstendamm. If you look for something upscale, you have to go to the famous shop KaDeWe. Europe´s biggest shop. 6th floor is dedicated to food and beverages. Many small restaurants, beer and champagne bars. Awesome!
Good luck!
