Address
Neighbourhood: Friedrichshain
When you arrive at Warschauer Strasse in the heart of the district, you have found one of Berlin’s party hotspots. At night in Friedrichshain, the energy is palpable and the streets of this old worker's quarter are full of street musicians. On one hand, you may find a bar with international crowds, electronic music, long lines and panoramic views - on the other, an outside venue by old train yards featuring decrepit buildings and live alternative music. No matter your taste, the best way to end a night out in Friedrichshain is sitting by the Spree River at the East side gallery, the longest and best preserved piece of the Berlin Wall, watching the sun rise over the beautiful Oberbaum Bridge.

    Art on the Wall
Plenty of interesting art work along this piece of the old Berlin Wall. I would suggest going in early morning or early evening when it is cooler out. All the more famous works are crowded with people taking selfies.

    Correcting History
This was worth the visit. Easy to get to by bus or S bahn. The Oberbaum bridge is also at the beginning, so that’s a nice photo op. Molecule man statue, just down from the bridge. Panels of the wall have been painted with thoughtful, funny, clever, and varied messages. This is the largest open air gallery in the world. We really enjoyed our walk. There were a few bars, restaurants in the area overlooking the Spree. We didn’t stop in any but we were interested to see it was a choice. Glad we saw it!!!

One of must-see places in Berlin
I didn't know that the gallery is so long, but at least there is always something to look at. I have found my favorite paintings and I think that you will find something interesting by yourself too. Expect a lot of people that want to see the gallery, as much as you do. Because of that, the pedestrian walk is quite crowded and sometimes it's hard to make a clear shot of some painting. Alongside the gallery, there are information tables where you can hear mostly about the concrete paintings, and the stories of people living in the times when the Berlin wall was still existing and in use. No ticket for the gallery needed.

A great area for photo ops
Passed by this area and you can easily spend about an hour here just walking and enjoying all of the artwork here. A very large diverse group of people hang out here. Nice area to sit down by the riverbend and enjoy a cup of coffee and a snack. Nearby is the arena where there are quite a few restaurants to eat.

    A must see.
Wonderful place to go and see, and learn about the history. If you are going on a budget this is free to see, and a real must see. Look at the art work, and learn, and remember the times that were.

    Longest surviving stretch of wall
A 1.3km stretch of wall still standing and covered in art work; some really good, some unusual. Being outside the paintings get hit by all weather and in 2009, the whole gallery was restored. Definitely worth the short trip from the centre to see it. The hop-on-hop-off busses get you there from Alexanderplatz.

Very moving the cruelty of man breaks your heart 💔 Berlin is not a nice city and we did not feel safe here.
Best thing to visit in Berlin. The art and history is very moving. In all though we were very disappointed with Berlin. We did not feel safe here. Massive drug and mental health problems. Berlin was built on a swamp and there is large pink pipes for drainage of ground water. Alexander platza has lots of building work going on, also the roads it a bit chaotic to say the least. Think carefully about your research ,do you really really want to visit Berlin ? For us as very experienced travellers it's the worst place in the world we have ever been

    Interesting outdoor gallery
Fascinating and cultural look at Berlin’s history . Really made you stop and think and reflect. Well worth a visit. Easy to access on the hop on and hop off bus which stops outside and allows you 15 mins to take photos

    A wall that speaks volumes
I love art and every piece tells its own story. Definitely worth taking your time and taking in each piece as they all speak volumes. It was however crowded around the famous kiss, other than that I throughly enjoyed it.

    Good at Night
I was initially planning to see this in the daytime but decided to see it at night since we were going to be nearby. I’m glad I did. It wasn’t crowded and it was well lit by the nearby street lights. Lots of interesting murals. It took us about 15 minutes to see the whole thing. Note that Google Maps is slightly off. It was taking us about 2 blocks in to the Gallery instead of at one of the endpoints.

First time I visited a couple of years back I arrived in the middle of the day bus loads of tourists were milling around. I was so put off by the number of people posing for pictures, buskers and street merchants plying their various trades I just lost interest. This year I was staying across the road so I went for an early morning walk (6:30am) and was able to enjoy looking at the various good and some not so good wall artworks. The river was lovely at this time of the morning as well!

When I saw the reviews I was very excited to see this, but I found myself slightly disappointed.

After seeing the first few pieces of artwork it becomes rather repetitive and at times distasteful, especially with all the tourists posing for the best instagram photo infront of the art.

I think as someone previously said, the artwork is at times amazing and the artists are clearly talented, however, it can distract you from the awful ongoings that the wall actually caused, painting it colourful and at times humorous takes away from the pain it inflicted.

This seems to be an Artists area in Berlin. Interesting food places and spots where people gather in the evening. The section of the Berlin wall that has been left as a memorial is extraordinary. Famous images have been painted on the wall here including the painting of the Trabant busting through the wall. If you are in Berlin and are staying near I thoroughly recommend spending an evening or part of a day in this area.

This mile long stretch of the wall is probably the most visited part of the wall. The wall is very well preserved and every section covered by superb murals/graffiti. The famous painting being the kiss between Russia and the states. Its a great place for photographers and a must see on any visit to berlin.

When in Berlin, this is one place I feel you should not missed because of the wall history in the past but more so as the representation in drawing or art piece that were created or inspired and put onto the wall. The images and expression in them will trigger some of the why, how come and what is next that the world, human beings and many more will do while being present in this world, the history learnt that will move us better in the future or not?
Look out for the famous American / Soviet Union MAN 'Kissing", is one of the icon and must see as it was very well portrayed.
It will not be a short walk, so bring along some food stuff and leisurely stroll through the wall which I feel will take at least an hour to really enjoy the journey. Tip- there is a McDonald and some food joint after the wall toward and in the train station.

We had to see the part of the Berlin wall that's still standing. It's an amazing sight and to think that this was to stop ppl from going into west Berlin from the east and knowing some of the lengths ppl went to, to escape. The inner side of the wall next the grass has been vandalised with graffiti but the side next the road has some amazing pieces of art on them.

I advise all travelers, specially those not acquainted with history, first to visit the Berlin Wall memorial on Bernauer Str to learn and understand the Wall, and afterwards to come here on the East side. I wrote a detailed review about it, so if interested read it (it's on TA Nr. 2 for attractions in Berlin).
Both of these are the longest remnants of this tragic structure in Berlin, I think the East side is even longer.
The East side is surely one of world's best open air art galleries, and the fact it's presented on the original Berlin (in)famous Wall makes it unique. Such quality murals and graffiti I saw only at Wynwood Walls in Miami and in Medellin's Comuna 13 in entire world.
Visiting the gallery is of course an absolute must and totally free, and I'd suggest when in the area to visit other attractions in vicinity like the Oberbaum bridge, the Molecul Man installation on Spree river and little bit further the Treptower park with the Soviet memorial.

It is worthwhile visiting the East Side Gallery - amazing piece of history stretching 1.4km. Wonderful artwork and culture. It will be great when the exhibition is finished in 2021 as it will provide more insight into the artworks.

The gallery itself is worth a visit. Its an interesting historic piece of history. However, I found it quite difficult getting any decent pictures as it was really busy. There is a museum at the start of the gallery but at 12.50 euros i felt was too expensive. There is a busy and vibrant square just across from the gallery which houses a music hall/cinema and various eateries and we spent a lovely afternoon here.

Read this was worth a visit-the eastern side of a section of the Berlin Wall, decorated by artists after the fall of the wall in 1989.This was as a statement, given that prior to the fall, to damage the eastern side meant prison. Took the S7 (S-bahn) to Warschauer, came out and turned left, and it is a short walk (and the blue signs high up on the lamp post direct you). The first few pictures had been graffited. It was mediocre on the whole and not worth a special effort. Behind this wall was a lovely stretch of The river Spree and a really nice bridge.
