To know Ampelmann is to love Ampelmann. It's impossible to come to Berlin and not come across East Berlin's most beloved icon. Luckily they have several Ampelmann shops where you can get souvenirs. I bought some refrigerator magnets and still smile whenever I look at...More

There are plenty of shops like this one in Berlim. The icon is a cute man, that appears on the pedestrian lights of the city. There are many options of souvenirs made in its shape, but I found them a bit expensive.

DW and I wanted something unusual for a souvenir of our stay in Berlin. We had learned, while in Vienna, that Austria uses their crosswalk signage as a way of advancing and/or recognizing social change (e.g., showing same-sex couples), which was interesting. In Berlin, we...More

How can you not stop in to pick up an Ampelmann shirt? Then you get to explain it when you wear it around town back home. A neat story and a bit of cold war history.

It is always difficult to find souvenirs to bring as gifts. But items with the Ampleman logo seem ideal. In a world where the large chain stores with the same old merchandise are everywhere, this cute little guy on Tshirts or tea towels makes a...More

When visiting Berlin at Christmastime, we learned all about Ampelmann (the figure on the lights at the street crossings) and visited the shop on the way to Gendarmermarkt Christmas market.(It's situated right across the street from the square) This shop is wonderful and has all...More

This shop is another one of those other quintessentially German things that you have to visit. The shops are very cute and pretty but quite pricey. I bought a hoody for 40 euros.

Wonderful place to rest a bit and catch your breath. Good coffee, even the mineral bottle gas the cheerful Green man on its label. Tasty bi-i-i-g cookies.

There's a huge range on offer, too, with something for everyone featuring this little crossing light man, one of the greatest symbols of Berlin. I purchased a sports bag and 'Do Not Disturb'-style door sign and the quality of both seems very good. I shopped...More

I was ignorant about the Ampelmann until finding this store. It is a nice store and Ampelmann's story is so inspiring :)

Mitte
The centre of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights
like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum
Island. The central location makes this one of the
city's most expensive places to live. It is here the
oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence
of some significant transformations, as well. The
gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets
between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given
