Tripadvisor’s approach to reviews
Before posting, each Tripadvisor review goes through an automated tracking system, which collects information, answering the following questions: how, what, where and when. If the system detects something that potentially contradicts our community guidelines, the review is not published.
When the system detects a problem, a review may be automatically rejected, sent to the reviewer for validation, or manually reviewed by our team of content specialists, who work 24/7 to maintain the quality of the reviews on our site.
Our team checks each review posted on the site disputed by our community as not meeting our community guidelines.

Not much is left of this former train station. Many German Jews were deported to their deaths from here. A small piece of interesting architecture amid shattering memories.

Unfortunately the Anhalter Bahnhof no longer stands. However this small part of the entrance still remains.
The beautiful train station was heavily bombed during the war. Afterwards the building was just a shell and eventually was torn down. The people of Berlin were upset and the entrance to the building was left standing.
From the remaining portion, you can see what a beautiful station it was. And it would be one of the more beautiful stations in Europe today if it still stood.
To see this ruin go to the Anhalter Bahnhof S-Bahn station and walk outside to the park across the street.

Over the road from our hotel (Movenpick) is this impressive building a former Railway Station. In 1942, this passenger station became the main departure route for over 9,600 most elderly Jewish citizens, deported to the ghetto camp of Theresienstadt and then on to Auschwitz. A memorial site, the building is tired and the statues atop the building have mostly fallen away. Homeless people now sleep in the entranceway which is steeped in the smell of urine. It felt strange to stand outside on what was left of the railway lines and know that in a couple of days I would be at the other end of them looking back from Auschwitz, Poland.

This main entry is all that still stands of the former train station which was heavily bombed during the war. What does remain makes it obvious that this must have been a very large and beautiful station. There isn't really any information at the site, but the Berlin guidebook or a quick internet search will fill in the gaps. There are many poignant reminders of Berlin's past scattered about the city and this is one of many things to be discovered while walking around.

Nice facade architecture of a remaining train station from where Jews were deported to concentration camps. Not much to see but close to the hotel where we were staying.. some graffiti and pigeon all around ..

This seems quite a large facade but it is a fraction of the size of the original station. It is rightly left as a reminder of what Berlin endured during the Second World War. It is very beautiful in its ruined state. There is always a great deal of traffic around the site as you are near sports and entertainment venues. Well worth wandering around, without any kind of gift shop or guide.
Well worth checking out and easily accessible on foot and by pretty much any form of public transport.

This historic site isn't somewhere you stumble across, but after wandering to Postdamer Plaza, this was something on my list of sites to see. As most of Berlin has been rebuilt, finding examples of historic architecture is refreshing on the eyes, although this impressive facade of the old railway station hides a sad history, being the sight that many Jews saw as they were loaded into trains bound for concentration camps. Information boards written in German and English abound in Berlin, giving the history of sites which no longer exist, and the information board here at Anhalter Banhof gives a timely reminder of the significance of this ruin.

Only a part of the façade and the portico remain of a once beautiful and important train station. The station was damaged during the second world war and finally closed and mostly demolished under the Soviet occupation. This was also the station from where Jews were deported under the Nazis.
The brick ruins are the only reminder of its once glorious past. Only the underground subway line now operates from the station.

Its hard to miss this building when you pass by the Anhalter station. It used to be station building, but now its a ruin of WW. There are no boards showing history at this place, but its really tragic when you know it.

Just a facade. All that was left after the bombing in ww2. As it's pretty close to Hitler's bunker, you can imagine how the area would have been cleared by carpet bombing.
