About 4km all the way around, with optional detours outside the walls. Or you can do just a part. Gives a great sense and views of Rothenburg. Very enjoyable and free!

The same wall, the same view! It could be any place in any part of the world. The views, any European town. Go off to other places.

The walls are in great condition and offer a wonderful view of the town. They are easy to navigate although a few spots are low if you are over 6’. Also note that during COVID the walls are only one direction, that starts at the main gate (north only for the northern section, south only for the southern direction) although you can still enter and exit at the stairwells along each section.

narrow walk ways, steep stairs, lovely way to overlook the city and also see the surrounding area. really need to go up and wander ... just be careful when doing so.
stairs going up to the city walls are uneven and vary in height ...watch your step. the tourist center has a tour guide they will sell you reasonable that explains the different gates and what you are looking at.

Part of the charm and character of rothenburg is thanks to the city walls. They probably have been restored many off times over the course of history, but they are still intact and have a very medieval feel.

You can walk around all of the city in these heightened corridors. Although at some points you'll have to walk alongside them because there is just the wall and not a passage way. It is a great way to explore and see loads. You'll get a good view of the gorgeous houses, the parks and the surrounding countryside. You'll also pass through towers, which are part of the defence system. There are various entry points and you can choose to walk the full circle, which will take you around 2 hours, or if you just want to walk a little distance.

What I loved is that they're completely free! Which, I found, is uncommon for an attraction in Germany.

The generally felt quite safe, but at some points they get quite narrow and the ceiling is low. Also, the stairs are steep and sometimes uneven. They are accessible around the clock, but you probably to have to be careful if you go up there when it is dark.

In my opinion you can't visit rothenburg without walking the city walls.

Loved that inscribed stones had been placed in the walls thanking people for donations for the restoration measuring their donation in metres

Really nice walk along the medieval town walls, offers great views and a good chance to see the town from above. The structure itself does seem slightly unsafe though so caution is required.

Castle circuit with 42 towers and a gallery, consisting of plastered stones and half-timbered masonry. Built since the end of the 12th century. The fortifications are beautifully preserved, you can walk through it. Amazing experience.
