We walked around the Townwalls and found this beautiful park. We got there through the Castle Gate (Burgtor), which is the highest gate of the town. The castle of Hohenstaufens was built in 1142 on this place, but it’s long gone. In the Castle Gardens, the only surviving structures are Blasius Chapel and the Gardener’s house, sorrounded by its Baroque garden. There is a great view of the valley and the town.

Located just outside the wall is a lovely find. Look off one side and you see the countryside. On the other you get a great picture of the wall and interior city. Nothing is in bloom this time of year but there are benches on which to sit and relax. There are also bathrooms located here.

Burggarten is beautiful and peaceful to walk around in. The view over the city wall is amazing. We went back again at night and it was magical. You can look over the wall and see the town across the way all lit up at night.

This is a beautiful garden on the top of the town with a wonderful foggy, almost esoteric view. It is a nice place to relax as it is quite peaceful and silent. It is ideal for those who dislike crowded places and modern city views, as you will only see a lot of amazing green countryside.

Burggarten or Castle Garden is town park. The castle garden offers a stunning view (as you enter to park on your left) of the old town and the Tauber Valley. This view point is one of the best in town and really breathtaking! Where the garden is now was the site on the Hohenstaufen Castle in 1142. The castle was destroyed by an earthquake in 1356. The St. Blaise Chapel (50 yards straight into the park, on the left) is the only surviving bit of the original castle. In front of the chapel is a memorial to local Jews killed in a 1298 slaughter. A few steps beyond that is a flowery trellis that provides a fine picnic spot.
What was our surprise when we walked all the way out to the gardens' far end, and we found another great viewpoint!! Park is very quiet, good place for relaxation or meditation, or just enjoy your day and beauty of nature.

What a pleasant place for relaxing! The Burggarten extends out from the west side of Rothenburg's old town. It offers shade trees, park benches, attractive flowerbeds, and, along its south wall, an excellent view back toward the old town and its walls. At the time of our visit (early May), there was a riot of purple wisteria along part of that southern wall of the garden.
Here too is located a stone chapel that remembers the men from the area lost during both world wars.
Note that the garden paths are paved with asphalt -- no cobblestones. Also, as one enters the garden through the main gate from Herrngasse, there are public toilets around the corner to the right (north).

After a long day of waiking around the town, we came here just to sit down and enjoy the beauty of it. Peaceful, quite place with amazing views of Rothenburg. Is not as crowded as other spots, we took a stroll andliterally had the entire garden for ourselves.
