The cathedral dominates the skyline of Regensburg and is visually wonderful inside. The place feels empty without pews, but the windows and stonework make the place quite wonderful to visit. Entrance is free and it is definitely worth visiting.

The Cathedral of St Peter's is a masterwork of Gothic architecture. Even without knowing a lot about the Gothic style, the casual glance will show anyone the mass of this structure and the length of time that it took to build it...the stone on the outside is actually multi-colored because, over the centuries, the stones actually had to come from different quarries. And the ongoing restoration of the church is beautifully keeping that "inconsistency" alive. Definitely a must see while in Regensburg.

We were told to be sure to visit here. A guide gave us lots of information regarding the building of the church, the architectural design, the carved statues, and the colors of the stones. What an amazing history story. Sad that we saw the scaffolding on hte right side of the entrance instead of the full beauty of the building.

Dom St Peter is renowned for its towering spires. Due to limited finances the spires were completed in stages over centuries. The early and more expensive limestone gave way to less expensive sandstone that was painted to look like limestone to simply concrete to finish the spires. Inside the vast interior furnishings are relatively spare compared to other neighboring churches. Probably the most notable feature is the 13th and 14th century stained glass windows that are well worth a closer look.

This is one of the highlights of the city. Went to tour the church on Easter Sunday only to find out a mass was about to begin so no visitors. Fortunately, we were able to attend mass and view the church interior at the same time. Worth a visit to see the interior.

We started with the Dom. Since becoming Protestant, its official name has been St. Peter’s Cathedral, but this 13th and 14th Century Gothic structure is still known as the Dom. Its lacy towers reach heavenward with elegant grace, but the most stunning feature is the medieval stained glass, almost totally intact, radiant on a sunny day.

This is a great Gothic church. They are doing a lot of repairs to the exterior which is covered in scaffolding right now. The gothic details you can see are pretty amazing, though. The inside is excellent with some beautiful stained glass widows and there is a small museum attached with some cool objects. The cathedral is free but the museum is 3 Euro.

This enormous building is the second largest cathedral in Germany. It was built many centuries ago on top of a Roman ruin and it makes you wonder how? Then it was rebuilt centuries ago after terrible fires. Still being restored today, the maintenance probably never stops. The twin towers can be seen from the Old Stone Bridge as you come into town. The inside is striking, with intricate stained glass windows stretching to the dome ceiling, plus numerous statues. You can go downstairs where you can see the bones of Regensburg, the founder of the city. Also, outside there is a little chapel where you find an icon of John Paul II.

I am not a religious person, but I can't help but stop to think in a place like this. The art work that goes into it in order to worship God is just amazing and powerful. The beautiful architecture was built hundreds of years before the technology we have today. Definitely stop to see this when in Regensborg.

The church was originally built around 700 AD.After several fires the Gothic church was rebuilt in 1320.The inside is magnificent as it is in most European Cathedrals. Lots of sculpted imagery inside of Peter, Paul, Ursula and the Virgin Mary. The twin towers can be seen from anywhere in the Old Town area. The 14th century stained glass windows are spectacular.

A direct train connection is there between Wurzburg main station and Regensburg main station. Travel time 2 hrs. Standard fare single trip is 48 Euros. Traveling by car is easy by following Motorway 3 from Wurzburg to Regensburg. Many hotels with free parking are in the neighborhood of the city center of Regensburg. In Regensburg is a good and cheap public transport system.
