This lovely church was nearly destroyed by the bombing in the second World War.
This church overlooks the market square in Nurnberg, it has stain glass windows & Gothic Arches. At 12 noon a mechanical parade is performed in the clock tower, inside is a little plain but still worth the visit.

The thing that struck me about Frauenkirche was how light and open the church felt. Historically, gothic architecture always appears heavy and weighty...but with the clear windows, Frauenkirche really does "shine". It's "simple" in comparison to some other gothic churches, but the artwork above the altar and around the naive add a wonderful simple, elegant touch. Definitely worth a quick pop in to view.

The Catholic Frauenkirche is without doubt one of the most beautiful in Nuremberg. Planned in the early Gothic style by Peter Parler. The most beautiful gable of the city churches is here and was created by Adam Kraft, as is the gable with the Männleinlaufen (clock with the figures running around (at 12 noon): trumpeters, flute players, drummers, criers. Among the figures, note two in Ottoman costume; then come the seven electors and pay homage to the emperor (Charles IV) who commissioned the church. The great backdrop for everything that takes place on the main market is Nuremberg's Christkindles Markt; main works of the interior furnishings: Tucheraltar (from the former Augustinian church), sandstone epitaph by Adam Kraft, stone figure cycle from around 1360, annunciation angel, three kings, man of sorrows, and the candlestick angel probably by Veit Stoss; much else from the Frauenkirche can be seen today in the Germanisches Nat. Museum.

Whilst having some free time on our river cruise with Uniworld we visited Nuremberg town.

There was a market on and on the same square is Frauenkirche. It stands on the eastern side of this market and is an example of Gothic architecture.

This is a Roman Catholic parish church of Our Lady.

It was built between 1352 to 1362.

This has been previously damaged diring the war and rebuilt during 1900's.

As its in town square and conveniently located its well worth visiting.

This church is one of the few Catholic churches in Nuremberg. It is very simple inside and very impressive outside. Formerly, on this site was the main synagogue of the city, which was destroyed to build the church. A few years ago, they had left the floor of the church with glass parts and you could still see the columns of the old medieval synagogue. However, they have removed all the glass and covered up the story.

This was on our walking tour through old town. It is right on a large square and is an impressive clock. Unfortunately for some reason the moveable parts did not move at noon like they were supposed to. Good places to sit and get something to eat or drink around the square.

The Frauenkirche church is a beautiful place, in a fun area of old town. There are many interesting facts that we learned about this church. There is a large plaza outside and the inside of the church is very beautiful. I would say that if you get the chance, go to this area to visit!

…let me start by saying that I was in Nuremberg a few days ago!!…for the famous Christmas markets!!…and I saw this beautiful “Frauenkirke” Church…only from the outside!!…the Hauptmark Square!!…full of stalls!!… it is precisely here that the Christmas market is held every year in December!!...from a panoramic terrace overlooking the square...I saw this beautiful Gothic church!!...it is said to have been built by Charles IV to preserve the crown jewels!!... which are not there at the moment!!...but the building had also suffered serious damage during the Second World War!!...so it was rebuilt!!...the beautiful thing I saw...was the astronomical clock...every day !!…at noon!!…makes the seven Princes move…around Charles IV!!…a moving music box!!…great ingenuity of art and craftsmanship!!….this “Fraunekirke” is very beautiful anyway!!…even if I only saw the outside!!…

Beautiful church located on Hauptmarkt. Everyday at 12 noon Männleinlaufen experience. I loved the chapel almost hidden inside the curch in front of the altar. Unfortunately not always accessible, you can see a Star of David on the floor immediately in front of the altar: this is to remember the Synagogue previously located on this area, the remains of which (a few columns) have been found during recent restauration works. I liked the sheer simplicity of the church, in contrast with the more elaborate facade and Chapel, and the wonderful retable on the altar, the form of which is reminiscent of a Torah Holy Ark.

A fine brick gothic cathedral watching over the main market square of the city. While the front facade is realtively unadorned it has two notable features: the balcony where the Christmas market is apparently declared open each year and the fine mechanical clock. Try and be there at midday to hear it. Not as grandiose as similar mechanisms in Munich and Prague but definitely fun.
