About
The St. Giles’ Church, Nuremberg’s only remaining Baroque religious building, dates back to the former Schottenkloster (Irish Benedictine monastery) which was erected here around 1140 on the site of a royal estate from the earliest period of settlement in Nuremberg. Today’s building was erected between 1711 and 1718.

St. Egidien is a Baroque church at Egidienplatz in Nuremburg. The church's history dates back to the early Middle Ages. However, the building you see today is a post-WWII reconstruction of the early 18th-century building by Johann Trost and Gottlieb Trost.

Sadly, during the 20th-century reconstructions, it was cost prohibitive to revive the churches previous ornate Baroque interior. Instead it seems a more subtle and economically feasible rebuild took place, resulting a rather simple interior that you see today in the form of an oval shaped nave with an appealing bronze crucifix at the main altar. The exterior is pleasant, featuring two towers with clock faces, topped with crosses. These make for nice photos when you step back on the square a bit.

Have a look-see of the church if you plan to pass through Egidienplatz during your visit to Nuremburg. It is worth 5-10 minutes of your time to see the inside.

I found this church accidently during an evening I was just walking in the city.
The Church is located on Egidienplatz and was formerly the first monastery of Nuremberg called Schottenkloster. The church is today associatedo Saint Ägidius, is today as the only baroque church of Nuremberg.

I found this church by accidentally, while I was walking to Tucher mansion. The interior look to be latterly rehabilitated in a modern style. It's a strong contrast between the modern looking interior and the old style facade.

St. Egidien has regressed into a secular, completely interchangeable mainstream location. Why this is possible with the resources of the Protestant Church remains a mystery.
The church leadership enjoys provocative actions whose artistic substance is simply not recognizable.
